Hello Everyone.
Yesterday was a good day for me. I think the anxiety medication (new drug- Cymbalta) that my doctor prescribed last week kicked in. I had my neurology appointment and in the moments leading up to it, I felt far less panicked than the week before when I went to my GP. I realized that the medication must have been working.
Anyway, I went to a neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic (Florida site). He did a thorough exam and concluded that everything was perfect- great strength and muscle tone and excellent coordination. I am somewhat hyperreflexive, but, it is equal in both legs and has always been the same. He says it's pretty common in people with high anxiety. He said he was willing to order tests if I wanted them (like EMG, but, truly did not feel it would be helpful). But, he said that if you hook yourself up to a machine, you can always find something going on in your body- but it means nothing in isolation- with a perfect clinical exam, there was no reason to look further. He asked what it would take to reassure me that I did not have any diseases. I told him that he is an experienced neurologist at a very reputable hospital and if he is certain I don't have anything serious, I would believe him. He said he is certain.
I am not totally over the anxiety yet. I still feel new twitches and tinglings. But, I have to believe that I really am okay... you can't fake a perfect neuro exam! If it were a bad disease, there would be other symptoms on the neuro exam.
I really believe that most of my current problem started because of anxiety. And the anxiety was brought on by... too much internet research on the bad sites!!! I wish there was a way for this site to come up first when people start looking up symptoms in their internet search engines... it could save a lot of people a lot of stress, worry, anxiety and probably twitching too!
