CPK Level 400; Fearful Result

Hello guysAfter three clean EMGs and at least 15 times good clinical neuro examinations since my twitches started a year ago, I decided to have a blood test yestarday. And my CPK level came 400 (max 200). It was only 80 when I had a blood test in June 2010. Fear to death. In addition to this, my neuro told me in my last examination that I had slightly brisk reflexes although he believes that it is due to my high level of anxiety. I gave a call to three neuros of mine today after I received the blood test and none of them seemed to be concerned. But I have a fear to death right now. Pls help!!!!

CPK's can be elevated for many benign reasons. Including recent exercise. It is often elevated in BFS. Three clean EMG's, that's the key.

There are others with high cpk (mine was 320) look at dredpirateroberts for example...there are many more too.Im not sure that the upper limit is 200 i think for active men its a little higher iv read 300.... plus blood tests to not work on max-min basis the numbers are created from the averages of people tested...you can have cpk of 500 and be totally normal.Exercise, aspirin.... loadsa stuff can elevate cpk(which clearly urs has been if it was 80)With numerous clean clinicals and 3 emgs...... it may be time to stop being "scared to death" all the testing is obviously just panicking you.Get away from all this. what age are you? Brisk reflexes are normal in young people. You need to re-evaluate your definition of whats normal for you and move on with your life.

How long ago was your last EMG, even an EMG the few needle sticks - will, not can, but will, elevate your CPK. My neuro told me a CPK was worthless unless it was taken before the EMG, but I have no idea how long the recovery time would be.

Just had a follow up EMG/NCT at the 21 month mark. Dx still BCFS and my CK levels as ionyZarrion indicates have been: 506, 559, 413. My neuro says that these numbers are very normal for BFSers and even moreso for people who jog and/or exercise (like me). So don't fret it!

Well thanks for great responses from all of you excellent people. I am a 28 year old male with severe hypochondria due to twitches. I admit that anxiety might have be the root of my symmetrical brisk reflexes in my last clinical follow up. Elevated CPK scared me to death when I first got the results. But when I tought, I realised that I undertook some weight training for my arms prior to the blood test. In addition to this, I am taking SSRI, sleeping pills, vitamin d, calcium, magnesium and fish oil daily. Furthermore I was under dexamethasone treatment (steroid) and also I randomly take Levitra to improve my performance. (In the booklet of Levitra, it says that CPK levels may be elevated as a side effect). So, I guess there has been a mixture of various factors that elevated my CPK level.
