Continuous Muscle Twitches

One thing that is driving me crazy is that my twitches continue when I contract my muscles. My tight is twitching, I move my leg on all ways and it is still twitching. Sometimes I fully contract the muscle and I can see it is still twitching even with the muscle contracted. My twitches almost stopped when I started taking 300 ml of carbamazepine and 75 ml of lyrica 2 times a day. Since that I rarely twitch anymore and the pain and fatigue sensation on my arm are almost gone. I read that gabapetin (neurotin) and pregabalin (lyrica) can stop bfs and als twitches.Does anybody here on this forum have fasciculations that persist even after flexing the muscle and even with the muscle flexed? I read that fasciculations on tensed muscles are very worrisome and I cant sleep because of this.

Nocturniscope,I wouldnt worry about the constant twitching, the fact that you can contract the muscle means that you still have muscle control and that you still have strength. I have the same type of twitches on both thighs since March of this year, my neuro calls them contraction fasciculations and she told me that they are not #ls related because my EMG showed no issues besides a small lower back issue. I have tried Gabapatin and Clonazepam and they didnt do anything to stop my twitching, so I stopped taking them. I know its annoying, but try not to let it get to you, the more relaxed you are the better youll feel.

The twitches I am talking about are not contraction fasciculations. They begin when the muscle is relaxed and dont stop when I contract the muscle. They stay regardless the muscle is relaxed or contracted. The combination of lyrica and carbamazepine controlled my fasciculations very well. I get them 1, 2 times a day now and without the medication I get them 200 times a day.I did 4 emgs with 5 months twitching and nothing was seen. got examined by 12 neurologists at the same time on a hospital here and they said my neuro exam was normal. It was that doctor team that put me on carbamazepine and lyrica.

I am so glad you found a med combo that really works. I have twitches that don't stop when the muscle in contracted and have from the beginning two years ago. I am still told I'm fine and had a clean EMG this month. I have a constant contraction in a muscle on my left had and have had it for almost two years. This month the neuro stuck a needle right in the muscle and said the emg was still normal on the muscle. I still don't quite understand that but don't want to argue with good news. The hand contraction thing goes on 24/7 whether the muscle is tensed or relaxed. The muscle is the same same as it counter part on the right hand and there is no weakness. I hate to hear about people worrying about the nature of their twitches when they are not interefering with their life. I understand the worry but it is really such a needless drain on living a truly happy life.

Can you explain me? you have a muscle on your hand that is always contracted? do you mean it stays forever contracted and NEVER relax? do you mean this muscle has a increased tone?

You are not the only one here. I explained that I have the same thing and I have read posts of people here who have calf twitching when their calf is being used to push down the excelerator while driving so it is contracted. The muscle in my hand contracts in and out, so it contracts and then relaxes every few seconds. It is not hypertoned. It just looks normal when relaxed.

I saw this posts. The problem with me is that I cant stop none of my twitches by moving the muscle. My biceps is twitching, I flex my arm and it does not stop, I flex it again and it continues, I do a forcible flex to see if it stops and it continues. They are invicible. I have to wait for them to stop on their own because I cant stop them.

You aren't the only one...mine did that for a year or so - flexion would irritate them actually and make things worse. Try do some gross body movements instead of a static ones (flexion) - for arms something that increases the circulation like arm circles,push-ups, or you can come to my house as I need some digging done in the yard. No really, if you move around more and breathe deeply it is much better - try it. If it isn't possible to do this, press (medium pressure) on the insertion point of the muscle into the nearest joint toward the heart and rub in small circles.

As I see, this problem is rare here. It is normal for bfs fasciculations to stop when the muscle is moved. Unfortunately this is not my case. When a fasciculation starts, I HAVE to wait it to stop on it's own because I can't abort it by moving the joint. Sometimes they don't appear while I am moving, but as soon as I stop moving they return.

Nocturniscope - that isn't what I said - my fasics used to continue also - however, getting your blood moving and circulation into the area it will help and especially can keep it from going into a cramp. Unless of course you want to have a rare symptoms then OK be rare. We're all special here, right?

The problem is that all articles I read, including on this site, say that bfs fasciculations can be stopped when you move the muscle affected and this does not happen with me. I don't want to be rare here because being rare here is the same as being common on the als forums. The fact you had this problem for a year plus the fact that you are a long timer make me less nervous. Thanks for sharing.
