Constant Twitching In Calfs

Hi allThis is just a living nightmare lately :( approaching 9 weeks of constant twitching in my calfs. Just looked at them now as i have been feeling BIG thumpers all day in them. You can acatually see the WHOLE calf move sometimes. Then there is the constant delves that happen. When i place my hand gently against the calf i can feel the big thumps, one every 2 seconds or so. They are really really really strong.....All i keep thinking is if they do an EMG on me there is no way that it cant pick these up, i men they are that strong they will probably snap the needle! I am reluctant to even call these twitches now as they are so frequent and strong..... this is realy the scariest time of my life :( Chris

Myoclonic jerks are not so bad and are not associated with ALS...You should know if you have true fascicculations or myoclonic jerks. Fasciculation wont move your muscle, it only makes a "strip" of muscle jumping..

now i am confused.....when i look at my calf i can see little bits of it moving all the time, a bit here and a bit there, it delves in a little here and then a little there....and like i said i can feel the thumping when i put my hand on my calf.....then there is times when it looks like the whole calf shakes at the same time.......MY calf never really jerks if you know what i meanChris

I would really try to get a good grip on cognitive function as soon as possible. Your twitching is causing you anxiety which causes more twitching... It's self perpetual circle of twitching and you can slow it down... don't give in to the fear.. it can resolve but will take time.. if you are having twitching in both legs at the same time, it's likely BFS.. it doesn't help to have someone tell you that though.. because your mind is already made up that it's something ominous.. change that way of thinking .. it's key !

I feel thumps in my calves and many other places on my body too. None of these showed up on the EMG. I too had the feeling like how could something not show up. I now have this constant contraction on the side of my left. The upside to it is that it gives the neuro something to see so he/she knows there is a problem. When there is no objective evidence, I think they wonder how much is you exaggerating your symptoms because eveyone gets twitches now and then. So, if they see fasciculations on the EMG or if they see them on your body look at it as a good thing. You are much more likely to get a proper work up than if they have to just believe your subjective description. Before my hand contraction, the other neuro did not really take me that seriously and seemed to exert little mental energy into helping find out what is going on. My new doctor is at least making an investigation.I'm sure your mind effects your body but it's not the only thing that effects it. You should not feel bad for wanting to explore other possibilities.Krackersones

Chris_UK, Seeing and feeling those are a good thing. However, let me say..when I (shamely) visited the als site yesterday I saw your name over there. Please take it from smomeone that is now having to FILTER OUT ALL OF THE STUFF I READ OVER there and go back to what many of neuros have told me and hearing the same thing from people on this site STAY AWAY FROM THAT SITE. Those are good people whom are suffering from something we are not but there are also people over there whom are up to no good and just to scare people such as some do on this site. PLEASE I BEG YOU to stay off that site there and stay here where you belong  Dont mean to be harsh but literally I HAVE LOST SO MUCH from this WORRY ok and now its going to be a long hard road.I dont wish that for you. Stay well, stay healthy stay over here..Lovely

My phyiso told me that the more anxious we get -the more we twitch and the more we notice things. I know it is hard when we are in this hyped up state of mind not to notice every little thing that goes on in our body.
