Constant Fasciculations: Scared and Freaking Out

I got rid of the big fasciculations only to feel some smaller ones in my legs and some on my arms now...I am so scared again I freaked out now. I see on my inner side of the foot on my left leg (inner side of the sole) that I have some constant small fasciculations, I can not feel all but I can see them. It is contant now for I don't know how long, I can not feel most of them and if I tighten the muscle I think they are not there but when I release it they are there again. Amml ones, one here, one there, not on the same spot but near. This are the ones that point to ALS from all I read about. I don't know if I will throw up, I am so desperate. My feet are ok, I can run, but now this is eating my muscles away. Do I really have this dreadfull disease...

Jerry,Try to relax. Your anxiety is getting the best of you right now. Remember this, ALS is a disease of WEAKNESS. Not twitching, not thenar dents, not pains in your hand, REAL WEAKNESS. I've had just about everything you describe. My feet and calves have tiny twitches that I can barely feel and they go all day long. I went through the thenar dent scare too (search my old posts) but realized that it's common and normal. Anxiety will only fuel your twitches and make them worse. What you describe is what just about everyone on this board is dealing with so you're no different. You'd know if you had true weakness because you would not be able to do things that you could in the past. Many neuros will tell you that twitching in the absense of weakness is nothing to be concerned about. Relax, you're going to be fine. -Matt

I thought that the small twitches that are constant and hardly felt (just some of them) are not consistent with BFS. I thought you have single muscle twitches, big ones that "hurt".I don't feel week in my legs no, just in my hand that has pain. I didn't walk today, but yesterday I run for 15 km (8 + 7).I thought I just had minor twitches sometimes, but I see about 5 diferent in the sole of the foot (on the inner side). So you say such twitching is also possible with BFS?I have a neuro exam tommorow, I feel like I will really get a death sentance when he sees my sole pulsating with twitches. Somebody even said if they move like worms they are ALS ones. And all this happened to me in 16 days. Before that I didn't have any twitch. 16 days is too fast to be getting my legs now...I really don't dare to hope that I am just more nervous today because of the exam. I must of have them for days, I noticed little pricking but didn't pay attention, I thought they were single twitches but they are not, they are small twitches that don't go away.I will be by my light all night now trying to see it they ever stop. I feel them in my calves now also :( I don't dare to look...

Small twitches = large twitches = twitches you can feel = twitches that you can't feel = twitches that you can see = twitches that you can't see = BFS. There is no such thing as a twitch that isn't consistent with BFS.

Jerry,Twitching = fasciculation. By definition, fasciculations are muscle twitches. This is the Benign Fasciculation Syndrome forum. Just about everyone on here has twitches. And most of us have it on our feet. I just have twitches on my right foot mainly (likely because it's the one I prominently use). Think about it, we use our feet ALL the time!!! And, the muscles are small on our feet, so they aren't going to be as dramatic as the twitches, say in your thigh muscle.I think you're the classic case where your twitching got worse with stress. This is so typical. Just read everyone else's posts. Please relax. We are all here because we twitch.Mitra

Jerry buddy, you have got to calm down. My feet (mostly my left) twitch 24/7. Sometimes my calves join in. Some I can see but not feel, and some I can feel but not see. Neither is indicative of something evil. Along with that I have twitches small and large randomly all over, sometimes a group of them at once sometimes just one here and one there. Some days I twitch like crazy and other days not so much. I also have tingling and feelings of numbness. My point is-it is all benign. You may have all or just some of these. Make sure when you see your neuro tomorrow that you express all your fears so that he/she can put them to rest.

Sometimes I can tap on the skin and I do get weith near by (not allways), isn't that ALS sign? Some people say neuro tap on the muscle and if it twitches you have ALS.
