Conquering Fear with Twitching Woes

Well, once I felt I was slowly conquering my fears going along with my twitching, I got a letter in the mail saying that my mammogram I just had shows a finding that "requires further evaluation".Now I've spun into another frenzy because I got this letter on a Friday night and can't contact anyone about this. What keeps bothering me is the talk about twitching (or peripheral nerve hyperexcitability) being related to cancer. I know it's certain types of PNH, and certain types of cancer (lung and thyroid) and it's rare, but still. I'm worried my twitching is the result of my body trying to fight off a tumor.I know this is a totally unfound fear, but I had a breast cancer scare last year (discharge from one side), and all turned out to be okay (including my mammogram, ultrasound and ductogram). Now I still have the discharge and a bad mammogram and twitching to boot. Ugh. I'm so tired of this stuff. I have to wait until Monday until I can call a doctor about this.Wish me luck!Mitra

Hi Mitra, PNH as a sign for paraneoplastic syndrome does not go along with breast cancer, that one for sure. And there are more things that belong to a paraneoplastic syndrome than twitching. Just calm down, it is for sure not. Most likely this has already been checked anyway, docturs often search for tumor markers when they make blood tests for people with uncommon stuff.

But the most characteristic feature of paraneoplastic Syndrom affecting muscles/nerves is not fasciclation but myokymia, which seems then to be always visible in slender persons .. Myokymia can as well occur in BFS as in paraneoplastic syndrome BUT it will we visible in EMG not as Fasciculation but as myokymic discharges.

Why would they send a letter and not call you first? I think if it were really serious they would have called.I have a friend who had an ultrasound on her lung and they found a small "suspicious" spot. It turned out to be nothing at all. Like Ashley, I will be sending positive thoughts your way.

Hi MitraSorry to hear you are worrying about this. Often this kind of letter just means there is something that they couldn't get a clear view of the first time, so they want to see you again to take another scan. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you- but I'm sure they would have called you if it was anything to worry about.Yasmin xx

Thanks everyone. I called today and they want to do an ultrasound on me because I still have the same problem as last year (the fluid from one breast) and they didn't see anything on the mammogram. So, it was a huge relief that I am only having to deal with the same problem as last year, which turned out to be okay. Of course, I'm nervous for the ultrasound because they could find something this year, but am really now breathing a big sigh of relief. Worst case, it would be something really small at this point.I really appreciate all your support, and I realize this is hardly related to twitching (although I was scared the twitching was related somehow)! Thanks for being here for me, even with my other problems.Mitra

Mitra great news. I was actually going to call you this am to see how you are doing!! yay, the scan will be good news also. Hugs, Ash
