Confirmed: Increased Irritability Causes Fasciculations

HI,I am proud to say that I have personally proven that increased idiomuscular irritability can cause true tongue fasciculations. I have experiemented with my wife and produce clear, definite fasciculations.I have sent the record to prof.Carvalho who was surprised and when gets more evidence, he wants to publish about it. This is the specialists who produced a lot of infamous papers discussed over this site as well but also very positive ones. This will be the very first, peer reviewed paper contradicts all the old literature mentioning that tongue fasciculations are pathognomic for MND.I will post my videos here (mine and my wifes tongue) if you want to. I feel so relieved¨so I just needed to share! I am sure this paper will be pretty interesting and brings more attention to our condition.Docen

Thanks for the posting. As a tongue twitcher and a scientist, it's great to hear people are trying to understand the underlying causes aside from your standard neuro chatter. Is your process for inducing tongue twitches replicated, or were you just able to induce them on your wife? The only reason I ask is because n = 1 isn't a convincing sample size, and I'm skeptical about a peer reviewed journal publishing something like that unless it was replicated. Great news, tho, and congrats. Please share the manuscript when it's available.

Basically, there are at least 2 samples (me and my wife) + one that had prof. Carvalho and done EMG. I was reassured that even one single case of documented benign tongue fasciculations would be published as its unheard of (among neurophysiologists) yet, even Dr. Pioro mentioned that (yes that dr. who on MedHeld written that does not believe in benign tongue fasciculations).Prerequisites: Increased idiomuscular irritability (that is best seen with thenar muscles where tapping can induce fasciculations or myotonic "dimple", or by isometric contraction).The point is that nervus hypoglossus, 12th cranial nerve innervating the tongue can be affected by this phenomenon as well, even though it has not been described (except for myotonia, which is something different).Replicable - yes. As both my wife and me do have increased IDM, I simply tried to tap tongue surface in its first third where n.hypoglossus branches into particular tongue intrinsic muscles. WIth normal person, there is no response, but with increased IDM fasciculations can be induced. That even implies that TMJ CAN contribute to tongue fasciculations, despite most neurologist thought it is not possible.I will post video of my wifes tongue at first.
