Concerning Muscle Fluttering in Legs

Well, Ive got some new stuff going on that is very annoying and concerning. A few days ago, I started getting a large muscle jump on the inside, lower thigh of my left leg. This came and went for a couple of days. Then I also started getting the same thing on the outer, lower thigh of the other leg. Today, the left leg has started to do the jumping or very large fluttering like a machine gun. It can last for burst up to 15 to 20 seconds. I mean REALLY large, rapid fire type flutter. Easily see my pants moving. My upper forearms also started getting some major thumps going on in the past couple of days also. Of course, Ive now had a few on my back also. A few fingers have started twitching more during this recent onset. Everyone talks about how random bfs is. This stuff seems to hit me symetrically. Since ive started to do push-ups over the past couple of weeks, ive gone from 20 to 35, so that is encouraging. I dont feel any weakness that Im aware of, but still getting a slight burning sensation in my legs, especially toward the end of the day. It sure seems like things are moving systematically on me. Any comments?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've had the same type of deal you were talking about - the large thumpers that ripple the muscles of the thigh - for over 2 years now, and I can still squat over 350 even though I've not been working out my legs regularly. Unless you've got weakness you shouldn't be worrying about ALS.

Cheif - "Twitches" that occur (rare, in an already rare disease) in patients with ALS, are not seen with the naked eye, nor are they felt. You are talking about twitches in your leg, and then you mention twitching fingers, that is not systematic. ALS starts with weakness (not twitches) in your foot or hand, and spreads upward through your leg or arm, leaving dead muscles behind, dead muscles that do not work, cannot support your weight, cannot even lift a toothbrush. They no longer work, not even a little bit. What you are describing, has been expierenced by just about every single other person on this board, and is completely "BFS Normal". ;) ~*~Amy~*~

I am glad to hear others state that what you describe is common as this was my understanding before you posted. Your description describes my life for the past 17 months down to every detail. I have forearm and thigh twitches every day in both arms and in both legs. Still no weakness like you. I had the twitches everywhere from the beginning so I realized it was systemic and symmetrical from the beginning. I have also seen the twitches through clothing. It is not normal but not unusual for the otherwise healthy people on this board. This is is what I take comfort in. If I had all of this without this board my mindset would be a lot different.Krackersones
