Concerned About Eye Symptoms?

Hi Folks: I have been getting some eye symptoms that are causing me some concern other than the normal 24/7 twitching (can you believe we now consider that normal). I have been getting squigly lines and you know when you see stars, well maybe a couple times a day I will see just one and it will flash in for a second then go away. I also get the odd small dark floater in my peripheral vision. There is no blurring or double vision. I go to the Nuerologist on Feb 14 and will discuss it with him but I know you people really know more. 6 Months ago I went to the optomitrist and had a full retna scan and my eyes were good 20/20. My blood pressure is good and the only medication I am on is 10mg of citalpram (anti depressant) which I am still weening off. (10 mg is a quarter the adult dose). Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks, Lefty C

Could be withdrawal or weaning symptom off antidepressant. They have some weird withdrawal discontinuance symptoms, which are temporary. Also, I have heard a few people on here complaining of eye floaters.Terri

If you do a search on "eye floaters" you'll see that a lot of people have had very similar experiences. Everything we experience gets magnified in our own minds when we develop this condition, too, Lefty C. Try not to worry too much before your next neurologist appt. I hope that helps!Take Care,Sir_Trouserz

Hey, I'd vote for Citalopram withdrawal effects as a likely suspect (if you didn't have these things happen until tapering). I took the cousin of this drug Lexapro, and when withdrawing, had ALL of the things you mentioned. I'm now used to most of them, as mine didn't taper off as well as many others'. Different patterns, notably those on Persian rugs, also swim when I look at them if I'm not feeling good at the time.-Dave

Hey-I have been to the eye doctor many times about this. These are called "floaters and flashers". They are not a problem and everyone will have or does have them in their lifetime. Its the vitreous gell breaking down in your eyeball and those are clumps of the fluid. Think of it like one of those globes with the snow in them. The snow swirls around until it hits the bottom, thats what a floater is. You only need to be concerned if you have any large "dark" spots that dont go away or the flashing is constant or you have more than 6 big squigglies. That could be a possible retna detachment. But besides that you will notice them really bad if you look up, mine were really bad for a few years but now I dont have hardly any. But just like the twitches they come and go and change, but you are fine. Im absoultly sure its not related to the medication because I have went in-depth finding out about them. I sometimes wear sun glasses because they get on my nerves. Sean
