Concealing thenar dent with hypermobility

I read some threads about people worrying about thenar dents so I just thought I'd share mine with you. It's invisible as long as the hand is "normal",but there will be a really huge dent when I abduct my thumb (dont worry about my thumb bending, its normal for hypermobility, I already tried not to let it bend too much so it doesn' look too weird..). This is my left side (the bad one with the bad twitching). But it has normal strength and very good fine motor skills when the tremor is not too bad. So this dent is a dent is a dent....So next time someone comes up worrying about it, just remember these pics....does anyone share it. Or do you want to share other weird dents?

Hey Chrissi, I have the same dent seriously...just checked my hand and I have one on each hand...ok glad you put that pic up or I would have freaked out about that when I spotted it..now I'm studying it...very weird...I also have a dent in my right thigh...I showed it to my neuro, he couldn't have cared less he said your body is not symmetrical..each side is different... ..my husband has just spotted me flexing my hand and he's got that..oh no shes found something new to look at expression....

I have it at the right hand too, but not that obvious. I guess because ma right hand is more muscular in general. Actually it's not a real dent my doc said, and no sign of athropy. But in some people (especially with tall slender hands) , the muscles on the surface of another muscle will visiby pop out and leave a "dent" there. If I'm right you're hypermobile too, so if you do the weird-thumb-thing I guess you know that I'm talking abou (having the opper thumb part be rectangular to the rest of the thumb) it will stick pout even more!

Most people with hypermobility suffer from anxiety, the chances for someone with HMS to develop an anxiety-related disorteder are more than 20 times bigger that for the rest of the world. They still don't know why, if there's a genetic link as HMS collagen disorder is genetical. But as BFS is anxiety related, not surprising we meet here....

Chrissi, I have the exact same dent in my right thenar muscle! I also have a strange dent in my right forearm but only when it's in certain positions. Everything I've read says that if it were true atrophy we'd have significant weakness by now. So don't sweat it. I have an appt with my primary dr today and I'll mention it. I'll let you know what he says. -Matt

I'm not worried about it.I used to be because i twitch there and sometimes I can see very fine quivers in it, but I'm not anymore. The docs already told me it is nothing to worry about and that it's not atrophie. I just thought i might share it so if anyone comes up bothering about this dent, he can see the pictures andknow it's normal in some people.

Hey Chrissi,Yeah, I just re-read your post. Sorry, I was in the car on my phone. I also just saw your thread on facebook. I have the EXACT same thing. In fact, you probably saw one of my old posts here with the subject "Very fine twitches". I have the same dent in my thenar muscle and it only appears when I move my thumb. I also have the very small twitches in the padding of my thumb, only on the right one. And I get the zapping (or popping) type twitches in my hand. It freaked me out last month but I'm over it. Looks like Shanny has it too. It's comforting to know we're in good company! -Matt

Yes, I knew you had them. But I figured out these are no real twitches in there. My thumb moves with this, I could only see it because I was playing with my kids (shadow-animals) and in the huge shadow, one could see that the finger tremors a bit. So these very very fine fine "twitches" are actually fine muscle movements with an internal tremor. But they feel strange, buzzing, and look really weird especially in the "right" light. I HATE the zapping ones!!!!

Very strange, I just read this and totally have hypermobility (I had to look it up). Like I can bend my thumb all the way back to my wrist and do all weird things with it. CRAZY about the association with this and anxiety. Now if they just had a 100% correlation with this and muscle twitches, I think I would breathe easier! Thanks Crissy!

Well, there is a correlation between Hypermobility and Twitching (not actually called BFS there) and a very strong correlation between HMS and chronic fatigue syndrom and a very very strong correlation between HMS and bowel stuff (IBS) and fibromyalgia.HMS people twitch a lot. When you're at a HMS website it's sometimes hard to tell if you're there or on the BFS site. ..Only difference: they call their twitches twitches and not fasciculations and noone is afraid of ALS..

It's "the padding under the tumb" I guess, but that would have been a real loooooooooooooong sentence :)You mean the black stuff in your nails? I don't, but my hubby does. I wonder how they get there...
