Clinical Exam: What's Included?

A lot of small tests in order to ensure that the different muscles and muscle-groups are working as they should and have their normal strenght. Furthermore the doctor will do some checks on the reflexes. If it comes out normal you are fine and do not have ALS. Some doctors order different tests as emgs and so on in order to be 100% certain that there is nothing wrong at all. It depends on the situation and on the doctors habits. Dont be afraid if that happens. Some doctors order these and some not. Its a bit random. Good luck.

The doctor will check your reflexes, make you touch your nose with your eyes closed, make you walk on your toes & heals. They also performed the babinksi on my foot. This is where they tickle your foot to check for MND. My doctor also did some kind of vibration thing on me to see if I could feel it. The extire exam only takes a few minutes.

Well, I did all that, not from the same doc though. My nuero surgeon had me do the tip toe and heal walk. The emg doc did the prickly roller thing on my feet, and my nuero did the heal to toe drunk test, touch the nose with my eyes closed and reflex. Test wise, the only thing that has not been normal was my bloodwork, it showed a slightly elevated enzyme on the ck. The nuero still sent me to a university hospital for muscle disorders because he said he didnt know what was going on and I wanted answers. My appointment there is next tuesday. Hopefully the bloodwork was due to me taking statins for my cholesterol. Coincidental that the twitching started 2 months after I got on that medication. I say twitch, it was more of a rolling affect on the side of my calf in 1 area. Who knows.....

Im concerned my clinical wasnt thorough enough. He only performed basic exams like making me demonstrate resistance,, walking on toes, touch my thumb against the other fingers, and turning my neck left to right.

Prtactically those checks you mention are main in determining if leg or hand or neck muscles are OK and if the innervation is proper. If therer is no changes in those features, then it might be not necessary top check if you hold your tongue out, if your eyes can symmetrically follow the finger (usually if notm then there are problems in the central brain), etc.
