Chased Doc for Earlier Neuro Appointment

I was telling my boss about my leg today and he asked me to roll up my trousers so he could compare the legs and he informed me that my right calf is smaller than the left, I am now absolutely terrified and have chased my doc for an earlier neuro appointment.

I think I'm in trouble!

Pete, calm down..coudn't it be that your calf has always been smaller? My right calf is smaller than my left but it has been the same over the last 6 month so I guess that's the way it was even before I started checking obsessively.
You need to see a neuro to calm down your fear but in the meantime stop checking and self testing if you can.

Hi Pete
Elena is right quit doing the standard check to make sure all is well- like the ck the muscle size against the other side of your body- youl find many many posts on here when we all did and still do the same thing- believe us when all it will do for you is cause you unneeded stress and anxiety- believe what your dr tells you- and read other posts like yours youl find we all do it and all cause ourselves undo stress and anxiety

I don't think everyone is symetrical. Relax, In the beginning when all this started about 2.5 years ago I was obsessed with self checking. My calf, hand, bicep is smaller than the other and still look the same. I agree, you have to stop self checking youself.

If we were all symmetrical we would be supermodels. My right foot is defenitly bigger than my left foot. My right arm is slightly longer than my left arm! My doc says men normally have testic*&^ hang lower than the other. Is their any weakness? Probably not! Are you dragging yourself or wheel chair bound by now? Relax! Was their even a tape measure involved?

Pete,

I had the same fear. Checked many times a day.

I have had this now for 6 months and nothing has changed. My left calf is almost a half an inch smaller than my right. My left forearm and bicep are also smaller. Nobody is completely symetrical.

Which is your dominant side?

Do you have any weakness in the leg that is smaller? Do you twitch in both calfs?

Take a breath and stop worrying.

Peter

Thank you all for your support, to answer the questions from bmwman, right is my dominant side , I do not notice any weakness only discomfort from the constant twitches and only my right calf twitches.

Starting to breathe

This site and the people on it have been a great help, thanks again. Pete.

Hi Pete,
Im glad you are starting to feel better. I was constantly comparing the size of my calfs and when I discovered that my right calf was smaller and less defined than my left I went into a panic. That was over a year and 1/2 ago and there is no weakness and other than the twitching it feels fine. My right wrist is larger than my left, my left foot is bigger than my right. Its all good.

Hi Pete

I'm a right calf twitcher, with a smaller right calf than left and my right leg is my dominent one. You're not alone with these symptoms.

If your really worried I would seriously consider going private. Not because you won't get good and expert treatment on the NHS, but because of the waiting lists. See my comment in this thread:

Good luck.

No one is symmetrical.....
My right calf is 1/4 inch smaller than my left. My left foot is smaller in the arch than my right.... My left bicep is smaller than my right.... I've measured it all and it means nothing.... Both my PT, my GP, and my neuro have looked at all these parts and said they are all perfectly normal. In fact just saw my neuro on Tuesday and went thru the usual tests... He said my strength and reflexes were great all the way around...
Relax, and put away the measuring tape..... :)
Take Care and have a great day...
