Caring Community Helps After Difficult Year

Hi all,I have been following the posts, and, I must say, despite the occasional conflict, you are a great bunch of people who obviously care about each other. You are fun, and funny too! Thanks for all the help...it calms me everyday to read your posts...My symptoms settled down late last week, even the crazy jaw ache, knock wood that it doesn't return. After a bad year I gained back 24 of the 50 pounds I lost on Jenny diotz2 as of last Nov. I am starting back on my diet, and went back to the gym today for the first time in months and months. My right thigh which started twitching invisbly, but I could feel the muscle buzzing, last night a bit, is throbbing and twicthing like crazy, left heel/arch are hurting, even my left thumb is bothering me again. And this after only 37 minutes on the treadmill walking at a snail's pace...Is this the norm with BFS? worse with exercise?Worried, but knowing I am not alone makes me feel less crazy somehow... Thanks,Victoria

Glad to hear that your symptoms are improving. Symptoms that get worse with exercise is absolutely bona-fide classic bfs and remember that even a small amount of exertion after a long lay-off will cause your body to react. In my opinion the benefit of exercise especially in combating anxiety far outweighs the negative side effects.. so its good all round... don't let a little reaction stop you!! also though in saying that listen to your body and don't over do it too much...Regards,Darragh

Can you think of any changes to your diet or environment (no matter how minor) that happened late last week that can correlate to your symptoms calming down a bit?

Yeah I hate exercise, and I hate exercise tolerance even more. Combine the two, and you're looking at a guy who absolutely can't stand going to the gym or working out at even a moderate pace anymore. For me the days and days of being sore or extra twitchy and tired afterwards just isn't worth it. If you find a way around this particular conundrum, please let me know because it would help me as well. :D) Oh yeah, and thank you for appreciating our awesome community and our great collective sense of humor. The best way to show your appreciation for us is to now post an avatar picture of yourself, preferably topless. I'm not sure if it said that in your Welcome to the BFS Board introductory email, but it is sort of implied. Trust me, the old timers all know this.If you don't have a picture of yourself, you could just post one of Jessica Alba or maybe Jessica Biel and I doubt anyone would mind. Thank you and god bless.P.S. Welcome to the board!

Victoria, I am and always have been a workout phanatic and after getting hit with this notice the twitches more after I work out. However, start slowly and once you build back up a tolerance you will find you notice them less after a workout. You don't have to give up your life just because of BFS you just have to learn what your body is willing to take at this point and ease back into your normal workout routine.Mary

Victoria - Yes, sometimes this happens - they start up - so try to relax while you go at it and enjoy just doing what you are doing at the time. But don't let the twitches distract you from getting back to exercising and whatever else you want to do. What may be causing it - perhaps a little apprehension about getting back into it that is starting them up (second guessing yourself) so give yourself a good talking to 'yes, I am fine and working out is good for me and I command you twitches to take a hike' or whatever is appropriate for you. It is all well and good because most people will think you are on your cell phone with a minuscule hands free. Many years ago they may have taken you away but take my word for it - you can get away with this now. Look at your thumb and just tell it you don't need the twitch right now thank you - and like bad traffic, sometimes it clears up and sometimes it doesn't but regardless it shouldn't keep you from getting to where you want to go.
