Calf Twitching Suddenly Stops

My one calf has been hard twitching for 2 months straight, so much so that the muscle would literally jump. . the other leg was starting to go hard as well. All of a sudden tonight I 'm sitting watching TV and after about a half hour I start wondering why my legs aren't twitching, generally after work while I'm laying down is the worse. It just stopped..weird. I had started Ativan 3 days ago, because of the stress related anxiety. After reading a lot of posts most folks here suffer from some sort of OCD or anxiety. I guess mine had hit its peak and had no where to go but twitch. Just a guess.I'm sure that it will come back , but this cease fire is really giving me hope that this is not a life long or life threatening event. For the record I did not have muscle weakness or atrophy. I do however believe the twitching started many months ago as I forgot about the temple twitches I would get and just freak out in bed thinking it was a blood vessel ready to pop. After reading some folks here having the same twitch.I was eating a bunch of roasted pumpkin seeds when the twitches subsided.....Might be worth a try.Hope this helps someone else as its calmed some of my fears.T

Glad to hear of your reprieve from the fasciculations. I would typically laugh at the comment about the pumpkin seeds, but infact I have been eating a handful every night since the beginning of Oct., as a way to increase my zinc, and infact I have noticed my twitches have decreased a few fold since then. Hmm.

Well actually pumpkin seeds are mentioned in several internet articles as a natural way of improving your nervous system function and health, so there may very well be some benefits and truth to this. I also know that pumpkin seeds contain good amounts of magnesium among other things, so its worth looking into. :D)

I agree - roasted pumpkin seeds are great. I have found that immunity boosters seem to help me when symptoms get bad - I vary them but zinc is one. Another good one is an herb call astragalus - available in some virus herbal blends or by itself, it is a root like ginseng in that it is an old remedy used for centuries, but has always been used for strengthening the body's immunity.

ImOk,I have a question about astragalus. Although there is no consensus about the cause of BFS, my neurologist says the leading research points to autoimmunity. Therefore, I have been taking supplements to help calm the immune system like high doses of vitamin D (30,000iu) and Evening Primrose Oil (1500mg 3/day). At these doses, I feel a reduction in my symptoms. I have also been rotating through anti-virals like garlic, caprylic acid, and oil of oregano. I'm not sure if those have been helping. My concern with astragalus is that it might hype up my immune system and cause more symptoms (if the problem is really an out of control immune response.) When you take it, do you notice any negative side-effects? What positive effect do you notice?I'm thinking about trying it for a week and monitoring my response.-Joe
