Burning Sensation: Causes Unknown

Hi folks,My twitches seem to have stopped. I thought this was a good thing right? Well, what's replaced them is a burning sensation on my forearms, thighs and feet. The burning sensation seems to start around 5:00pm at night and then annoy me most of the night till I go to bed.I've no muscle fatigue or any other symptoms that seem to point to RDS or Fibromyalgia, but can't pinpoint the exact cause.A lot of sites on the net seem to point to this being anxiety-related. I guess I do get anxious about things...and, like when I had my twitches, the symptoms seem to "feed" off my anxiety. I thought I beat BFS pretty good by not thinking about it. Now I've a new "nasty" to replace it.Anyhow, does anyone else with BFS have similar symptoms? if so, how do you manage it? My GP is sending me off to a psychologist for a 6 week program. I don't have a lot of faith in quacks...and am only doing the program to see if it has an affect on my symptoms. If not...I'm going to try and look into the whole vitamins and minerals thing. I've read that amino acids, magensium and B12 are good for the nerves. Has anyone had any success on them? I've just started taking a course of them but it doesn't seem to have much of an effect on me. I've even taken to taking ibuprofen and a glass of wine at night to see if this settles my brain. I don't have any aversion to taking prescription meds....just as long as they work! I've read that cloazepam is effective with the burning skin problem also. Any shared thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.Pat

Burning skin is a sensory symptom. IMO it's the exact same thing as BFS. Both of them are caused by having hyperexcited nerves. Your nerves are sending your brain signals that it can't really interpret. In time it will probably go away just like the twitching did.

Hi Pat,i deal with this since years and its absolutly BFSrelatet...both start at the same time for me. I have a test because i thougt in the past it is maybe MSrelatet but it wasnt, thanks God.Mostly i get it when it is very cold but in the summer i feel it normaly not or very less. It makes me crazy a long time and first i learn to live with it, then i learn to manage it. I ignore it complitly!!! After ignoring it for a while...just go on smile while iam burn (arms, back, legs)...it g subside more and more. Today, i get it only if get not enough sleep and sometimes it flare up without reason (not offen). I find out that, if i take my attention on it, it gone worse again, so i realy dindt pay attantion on it no matter how bad the burning is....and it works for me.Now i live like someone without that symptoms and from the past to now i could reduce the burning 98%. It was a long way for me, throug the fear and to the idea to ignore it CONSEQUENTLY.It was hard for me in the past, because not many people here got this nurning skin, so i felt alone....but you are not alone! ;)It is not easy to ignore it the first time, but it is possible and it works.Hope i can hel you a little bit and sorry for my limited english.....regards, florian

Oh yes, i dont now realy if that was what helps me also, but i take a good dose of Vit.E and a lot of very good Oil wtih omega3 fatty acids. I droped the Vit.E but the oil i take everey day and i think it helped not only for the twitching but also for the burning ;)

What does your burning sensation feel like? I get burning sensation. It feels like electric shocks and like a cigarette butt is being put on my skin... I get it around my hands and fingertips. Don't know what causes this either

Hi TatsuDragon15,The burning feels like regular sunburn (although there are no visible signs of any burnt skin). The electric shocks you mentioned are just the brain's way of being overloaded. Your twitches are pretty much the same thing...except they don't normally hurt like the electric shock or "pins and needle" pain. Is this what you are getting in your hands and fingers? How long have you been getting these electric shocks? I've had them occassionally over the past 3 years. It's just one of those things you get when you are stressed.
