Hi all
Noticed a rash of posts regarding clean limb emg followed by bulbar panic.
I have long had concerns about bulbar symptoms. Had a clean emg (limbs only) then wondered about tongue, jaw etc.
My rational self says 'initial symptoms were twitching in shoulder (which went away) calves and feet. No doctor wants to see me again, not even for a six month follow up. So why do I have moments of panic?'
I saw a dentist yesterday as I had some trouble with a tooth and I told her I had occasional speech problems. Her response? You do not have speech problems. Just hearing you speak is enough for me to say with confidence, you do NOT have speech problems
So, thought it might be reassuring to others who are in the same boat to know that there are some of us with these issues and that it most likely can be a symptom of bfs (and anxiety no doubt)
Here are my bulbar symptoms:
speech problems (percieved probably but anyway..) have trouble with certain consonent blends. words with 'st' like faster. That's it for the speech. been like this for five months. no change, wonder if I always had a bit of a problem with 'st' words but only just started obsessing over it
Jaw twitching Happens about three times a week. I do have tmj (where you clench your jaw) and often wake up in the morning with scallop marks on my tongue where I have beeb clenching during the night. Have a sore jaw too, most probably for the same reason
Swallowing Sometimes feel I have difficulty getting food down. Other times, no problem. Again, this has been 'going on' for over five months with no progression
Lastly (and the most sexy
) ) excess saliva Comes and goes. Particularly noticeable if I am focussing on it (hmmm....)
Anyway, sorry for the 'me, me, me' ramble. I hope anyone else with bulbar stuff which is bothering will post their 2c as it is quite clearly a concern for some and would be good to know we are not alone with these issues
Cheers, Julia
