When I drink water or anything I have a faint gurgling sound in my throat immidiately following. I've heard of this being a bulbar symptom. Tell me I'm crazy. I'm at the end of my rope here. Anyone else get that when they swallow their spit or get a drink of water?

OK I am going to tell you you are crazy on this one!!!!!!..I have had this for years, like 10 years OR more. - It is reflux...I know exactly the sound you are hearing, and sometimes it doesnt even have to be reflux but can just be the way it went down, gurgling noise, right?..Now I am going to kick your butt :D) ...You are good. I am sure other people will be coming on and telling you the same thing soon. You are good...Jenn

You are always there to answer me first. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you being on this board jenna. I've decided to run the whole gammot of tests this week and then if all are normal I'm going to say &%$ to this worrying thing. I'm having a fourth emg by an als specialist including bulbar FRI, a ENT work up tomorrow, an endocrinologist workup on wed (I'm hypo thyroid). I start cognitive Behavioural Therapy on Monday. The sound in my throat sounds like the kind of sound you hear in your sinuses or nose when you have a cold. Like a faint eeeeiiiirrrrrrrr. I'm so sick of this. I'm supposed to be preparing for a european tour which starts in a month and a half!

That is the sound you hear, I know what you are hearing, really, it is not bulbar, honest. I am glad you are going to get all of those tests because then you will know that nothing is wrong. It will be ok just hang in there until Friday, you will see. Also ask your ENT about that sound he will tell you the same tomorrow.

No problem always answering you...as you can tell I have no life..lol..my man is gone and I do not know alot of people around here yet, so just me and my doggie..lol, plus I know what it is like to go through this...

You mention this is your fourth EMG, you are soooo good to go. I have only had one and sometimes I want another but then I think about what everyone tells me on this board and what my Dr.'s tell me, not that many people could be wrong. There is no way you have ALS with having 4 EMG's...Jenn :)

Oh my god! Wow! I have had this for at least six years that I know!!! I started twitching in March 2001 and have been twitching ever since! I woke up one morning and my body was twitching like the lights on a christmas tree! Around this time, I also started noticing that noise. eeeeiiiiiiiiirrrrrrr, yes I know - every time I swallowed - thought it was bulbar onset too!!! In addition to the neurological tests, I had a endoscopy and it was reflux, another condition brought on by stress sometimes. With the whole bulbar thing back SIX YEARS AGO!!!, I would read signs out loud on the way home in my car from work and try to say them fast to see if I was stuttering or slurring my speech, or I stared at my tongue for hours in the mirror to see if it twitched. I was in bad shape with the checking. Six years later, still twitching, more during stressful situations, less at other times. I don't worry about it any longer though.
