BFS vs. ALS: Buzzing Differences

Nothing to fear my friend. Buzzing is not a sign of ALS, it is a BFS thing. I have heard that buzzing is just a REALLY fast twitch but I am unsure on that, it may not be twitching at all but a sensory symptom... but here is a quote from Alonzo the independent BFS researcher and from a top neurologist:

------------------------------------------------------------------

How do twitches vary?
Twitches with BFS vary greatly. A lot of people experience "buzzing" which is actually a very fast, small twitch that feels like someone is holding a vibrator against your skin. Other twitches appear as little ripples just under your skin. These are usually felt but sometimes aren't.

"The disease (ALS) does not affect the person's ability to think. It does not produce abnormal sensations (tingling or numbness) or loss of sensation."

“Of course, many people think ALS when they see fasciculations, but more commonly there is a different cause. In young people such as yourself, the most likely cause is "benign fasciculations" - that is, normal. Fasciculations occur when groups of individual muscle fibers twitch, but the rest of the muscle does not go along in synchrony. The twitch occurs without the command of the nerve - it's just on its own. Some of the symptoms you have (vibrating, bubbling sensations, etc) are not related to the fasciculations. They are NOT symptoms of ALS, which is a motor disease.”

The bottom of my left foot buzzes all day long (Like eyennyGlimmer, BFS bothers my left side the most). It buzzes for 1 second, then stops for 2-3 seconds then buzzes again... I can really notice it when I'm sitting at my desk at work ... But I'm glad to know that it's nothing more than just bothersome and is not related to MND ...
ALS doesn't affect sensory nerves, just the motor nerves, so odd sensations like that point away from ALS and not to it.

Hope that helps
God bless

Many thanks - everyone. Excellent info and I appreciate everyone's time.

It's just so amazing how this effects everyday life. I've discovered...unfortunately...that I have a significant amount of health anxiety and I'm over-analyzing various signs and equating them to God-aweful diseases. Right now I'm on a path to convince myself that I have cancer...how kkonw what tomorrow will bring...

Mindset mindset mindset. The support here is horribly encouraging and again, I appreciate your responses. Between your support and time with a counselor, things can only get better. I need to reinforce that everyday...if not every hour...!!!

Take good care everyone.
