BFS Twitches: Types & Experiences

Hi there,
Benign twitches come in all intensities and locales, frequencies and behaviors. Some of us twitch, some crawl, some feel buggy sensations, others have worms crawling under the skin. (My husband's bfs twitches were of that variety-YUK!)

Lots of folks report vibrating sensations with their bfs. Several of us have also noted that our twitching is minimal, if not non-existent, but we still have BFS. I've even nicknamed the syndrome "benign frigged up syndrome" just so that it more accurately encapsulates all of the associated complaints. ;) For me, the bfs has always been more about tremors, perceived weakness, and ratcheting than twitching.

The head movement you are describing sounds as though it could be essential tremor, which can occur with bfs as well. OR, since you describe a pulling sensation, it may be a condition called spastic torticollis, which is treatable with injections of botox into the neck muscles.

The only way to really tell is to get yourself to a university medical center/Neuro with a sub-specialty in movement disorders. You may have done this already. I apologize that I don't have the time to scroll through all of your posting history, so forgive me if this is overkill.

Of course, this could all be bfs. All of your symptoms can and have been experienced by some or one of us some point or another. Just search the board if you need reassurance of that.

The botton line is, it doesn't sound like something sinister, and there may be meds you can take for the tremors. I never needed to do that because mine are mostly triggered by stress. If I manage my stress, I can control the sensation of tremor significantly.

I hope this helps.

If anyone needs me, I'll be in the OT lounge chaperoning the orgy.

Blessings,

My twitching comes in 2 modes:

(1) you can physically see the twitching and it's very similar (if not identical) to the twitch you'd get when you have over-worked a muscle. You see it fire and sometimes it keeps going and going. It doesn't hurt and is just "there." Depending on where it's at, it could move my finger or it could tug my whole arm. Mostly, it's just something you feel, like someone has brushed by you and when you look down at the area, the muscle just keeps tugging and tugging.

(2) a buzzing sensation that I have had feels like my body part (typically my left hand) is tied to a string trimmer and it just keeps buzzing. I can't see anything and I often wonder if it's really tied to BFS, but it comes and goes and I typically notice it when I'm stressed...so most of the time!

Everyone probably has a different story to how their's feel - like SuzieQ notes - but thought I'd share my experience.
