BFS Symptoms and Recovery

Hi all, 10 years later and my BFS has subsided except for a random twitch in the calf maybe once a year.:) I was diagnose with BFS by a neurologist some years ago and like many of you I went through a slew of symptoms. But as my doctor told me the nerve misfiring finally subsided and has not returned. I just wanted to reassure you all that no matter how EXTREME your symptoms and accompanying anxiety you can get through this...I never need medication,so there is hope on that horizon as well and my symptoms were all over the place. I just began to focus less on the symptoms as they became less fequent and thr anxiety soon left. So if you truly have BFS then please rest assured and an occasional flare up aside, things can get better.:) Good luck to you all.Amy

You are welcome Cindy...I swear the anxiety that accompanies BFS makes it worse. I think that most people have to let symptoms subside before they can let the worrying go...after that it seems to lessen with each year. :)

Blondie, thanks for the post. I was diagnosed with bfs 3 weeks ago monday !!!! I am still in the fighting anxiety fear- but I am also pregnant with heightened anxiety anyways. I am overcoming it though day by day. I actually had this a year ago..it went away all spring, summer and fall and recently came back when i was 3 months or so pregnant. The twitches have dropped DRAMATICALLLLLY EXCEPT if I get REALLLLLY anxious or worked up over something...but as soon as i let that go..they go back to being very random and sporatic and far apart. You are right the ANXIETY makes it worse PERIOD.Im glad I finally had someone talk me into seeinga neuro!! I thank GOD she knew what BFS was and I didnt have to explain it or go w/out a diagnosis...it made things even better and seem more real for me..that they know we have something going on, but its benign. Thanks again for you post......Lovely*last night i did the ultimate NO NO while pregnant but it got the best of me*, its sorta funny- but it was just a anxiety reducer..I was out in the garage..watching a storm come in..and I saw one of my husbands dumbbells (not not a friend of his) but a weight..lol it was about 30 lbs..I leaned down and picked it up and did a curl with each arm..(I GOT SCOLDED HUGELY because Im almost 8 months pregnant but......I just wanted to proove to myself I can do it and I did and today I hurt lol).....* Just thought I'd share that..I thought it was funny.

Hey Newbies,Heres another success story I found in the archives. See , it does get better with time.Focus on the NO REAL BFS ANYMORE and forget the 10 YEARS LATER, maybe it could be tomorrow for you.Have a nice week,Ed

This is good to see. Just reading the words "10 years later" is comforting for a lot of us because we are so sure this is leading to something sinister. I sure hope my day of relief comes sooner than that, but if I'm still here in 10 years, well maybe then I'll finally be convinced that I'm OK. :D)

For what it is worth...I am 5 years in and I feel like I get a little better every year.I notice twitches in my anke and foot now more than my calves. They used to drive my crazy in my calves but they don't seem to bother me as much on my ankle.Maybe in another 5 years I will be symptom free :).It is a long march though.-43RichyThe43rd
