BFS: Fatigue vs. Weakness?

Hello,
I am rather new to all this...7 weeks. Have been to a Neuro. who dx BFS and RLS. He didn't do any tests other than the basic balance, reflex etc...
My husband and I both got the impression he thought I was an anxious female and didn't take me seriously. My question is the difference between fatigue( does BFS effect leg muscles) and a weakness. Both my legs are kind of "shakey" when bending down or if I do leg lifts they definatley quiver and feel like their shivering...Is this a BFS thing or do I need a second opinion?
Thank you ...

Welcome christine,

You fit right in here. Whether we like it or not, we're all on the anxious side here...seems to be the main common denominator. :)

Anyway, your symptoms sound like many others here--and your neuro is 99.999999999% right that you don't need any further tests. (heck I guess I should say he's probably 100% right).

The stickler here is that if you're having doubt--it doesn't hurt to go back to him tell him so.

It's all up to you. Don't discount your neuro. Try having another discussion--even a phone consult with him to let him know you're still uneasy. (Just tell him you don't mean to doubt him, but you still have nagging thoughts about your symptoms and see what he can do to really show you that nothing more serious is going on).

If he was able to diagnose you with BFS, then he should certainly be aware that it takes a while for that diagnosis to truly sink-in for people like us. If you read through the posts here, you will see that MANY of us have had neuros who ran EMGs and NCVs on us only for our piece of mind--and for no other reason. The neuro who did my tests joked that it was people like us who keep them in business (because true neuro conditions are quite rare).

Give him a second try, and if he can't help put your mind at ease...then try a different neuro. You won't be the first here get a second opinion.

Hope that helps...and have fun reading through the board. You'll see a lot of similarities and good info!

Thanks for the reply Amy!

This BFS is such a crazy thing...two months ago I was working with a personal trainer trying to get in shape after having three kids and finally doing something for me meaning not driving to swim team, soccor, little league etc...and this just came out of left field! Talk about rocking your world...I didn't even know what ALS was... and after going to the Neuro. positive I was going to get the dx of death, I almost felt sheepish and totally neurotic when he explained the BFS and RLS( I think my husband felt the same way!) But once I found this site I realized there couldn't be that many neurotic people all feeling the same thing!

Anyway, it is nice to have people out there who feel the same way and take the time to make others feel more relieved.
Christine
