BFS: EMG Exams and Fasciculations

I am really grateful that I have found this board. I have been suffering from the symptoms of BFS for around two months. I have seen my GP who took blood etc and eveything was fine.

I have a quick question, why do so many people on this board undergo EMG examinations when fasciculations without weakness do not point to a more sinister diagnosis?

There are a lot of neurological conditions that are neither fatal nor untreatable. For example, twitching can be a sign of peripheral neuropathy in the hand (carpal tunnel or ulnar tunnel syndrome). It's a relatively uncommon sign (apparently), but carpal tunnel is a very common condition. Since there are many treatable neurological disorders, it makes sense to test for their presence via EMG and NCV testing.

Besides, as twitchtight said, it can help overcome anxiety knowing that a relatively objective test came back clean.
