BFS: Disappearing Fasciculations?

I recently met with a Neuropsychologist at the University of Miami and I was surprised to hear how knowledgeable he was about BFS; and according to him, he has dealt with many cases of disappearing fasciculations.. What does it mean if they disappear at the doctors office?

I always feel better the second I walk into a doctor's office. Plus my fasciculations are so random that it's hard to tell where I'm going to twitch next....I told the neuro we could sit and wait on the twitching, but that we could be waiting for a while. I dunno if anyone else is like me. I don't twitch 24/7.. I can go at least a minute or two between a twitch usually...and they're mostly in my legs around my knees and calves. I think I see where this is going though... I do believe that our minds have more to do with this in a lot of cases. I will agree that some people on here do have a genuine problem with muscle fasics, but I think my problem is mainly anxiety. I remember how it all started... I twitched in my right index finger one day during lunch and then later on it happened again. A few days later I noticed my legs seemed a little more "jerky" in their movements and thought "Great, I'm going to start twitching everywhere..." and lo and behold... I started twitching, everywhere... I would have just ignored it if I wouldn't have started having severe dizzy spells... that's when I kind of panicked... the dizziness stopped but the twitching kept on going to this day... So I'm either subconsciously doing this to myself or the "viral - bfs" linkage is true. I have shown my fascics to my parents and my mom was just like "My calves do that a lot too..." So maybe I'm just making a mountain out of a mole hill in the first place... who knows...

My symptoms don't seem to care who is watching. I have read several posts here where people have reported fascics disappearing at their neuro's.I recently met with a Neuropsychologist at the University of Miami and I was surprised to hear how knowledgeable he was about BFSThat must be an interesting field - my regular neuro often does the shrink thing with me and I joke with him about it (brings out the bad comic in me I guess). The integration of these two fields makes sense. Did you feel that the visit was worthwhile? I saw one neuro at UM (it didn't go well - long story) and was recently referred to another UM specialist by a rheumatologist. Don't know if I'll actually go.

Don't know if I'll actually go.Actually, this guy scared me... he seemed agitated when I used medical terminology to describe my medical history.. it was sort of like he wanted to out wit or me something... I was explaining that I have had twitching all over my body and he procceded with "has your earlobes twitched?" ... he knew that I knew that earlobes cant twitch, as I say ;he was trying to show me his witt... Perhaps he should be a lawyer instead of a neurologist.. At the end of my visit, he said in a very condescending tone " man I would love to do a psych battery on you and find out what makes you tick" I suppose if he could actually break through he might be able to help.. I find it ironic, my rheumatologist is the one who sent me there to UM to see him as well...

MY Cheif of Neurophysiology beat me with a rubber hammer for ten minutes in my large muscle groups and thenars NOT ONCE did she see a twitch- she said I cant "clincally dx you with BFS let alone ALS is not on the radar" but since I havent seen a fascic clincally I cant even say you have BFS but from what you describe I will say you do. DX., BFS. Then on my EMG after so many flexions and moving my calve fasciculated and she smiled and said "ahhh a fascic that HARDLY registered but its benign w/ no other things w/ it so again BFS and thats it my dear"...Lovely

naturally not a twitch ever in the docs offices... and i tried to show him my lip too and it ususally twitches after i squinch it. nada.my tongue twitched in my gp's office but she had left the room. nada. zip.
