BFS and Tenderness in Quad

Ok, being a massage therapist, I'm embarrassed to say I had to look this muscle up. I believe it is either my plantaris or my popliteus muscle (both are muscles that attach the upper leg bone to the lower) Anyhoo, ever since the BFS started I've had a lot of tenderness there, especially to the inner back part of my knee (more upper leg, lower quad). So, looking at the muscle diagrams, I'm betting that the calf twitching can cause those muscle to get tight. Also, the hamstrings being tight can add to the problem. I have nasty trigger points in my hamstrings too (never a problem before the twitching). If anyone else has these to, might be worth getting a massage from someone trained in trigger point massage. I use a TheraCane on myself if I can't coerce a coworker to stick their elbow in my hamstring...

Thought is might be useful to those with leg pain and/ or tight leg muscles

Shelley,

A while back I also determined that my Plantaris muscle seems to be the one causing pain in the center of the back of my left knee. I had my wife use an electric heated massager and massage the Plantaris from the back of my knee downward towards my foot for about 15 minutes.

When I do stretches now, I try not to stretch until I feel pain in this muscle anymore, I think I was overdoing the stretch thing too.

The results of the combination of these two were very good, I've had over a week of pain relief and greatly reduced twitching now.
