BFS After Cipro: Permanent?

My BFS started after 2 weeks of a viral infection. during that period i took cipro. Anyone here had BFS after cipro ? If cipro is the cause, could it be permanent??

I have no clue why someone gave you cipro for a viral infection  but yes, it has beem reported a few times. But as infections can trigger BFS as well, it is not clear if it is the med or the infection.

Cipro absolutely can cause long-term fasciculation and other neurological issues. It is listed on the side effect profile for the drug and there are published papers on there link to peripheral neuropathy. Since this is how my bfs started, I spent an extreme amount of time researching adr's linked to FQ antibiotics and 100% believe them to be the cause for some people. Obviously they aren't responsible for all cases of BFS, but there is a strong link for some of us. Search the archives here and you will find multiple examples.BTW, I was rx'd cipro for a supposed urinary tract infection, which the cultures came back negative. Had a back ache with traces of blood in my urine, so the doc ordered cultures and sent me home with Cipro. A week of cipro later, and no infection, I get slammed with extreme muscle fatigue, fascics, muscle/joint pain and a myriad of other sxs. The stuff almost ruined my life, but like most other things, my body recovered over time. Take care,Gary

I am sitting here with another  urinary tract infection and a pack of cipro I havent started so far because I hope I can get it under control with tea and herbal meds.....This is not making me very optimistic. BTW the last time I had an UTI I was put on Cotrimazol and it caused totally BFS symptoms from the first pill on , but it went away 24 hours after the last pill...

I was on a fluoroquinolone antibiotic like cipro 3 times in the two years preceding my onset of bfs. Each time I had 6 weeks of treatment. It's actually one of the high likely cause for me, with stress/anxiety. Also, for urinary issues just give a try to cranberries juice (who said I am not into the diet thing ? :D) ), this is a really effective way to prevent this kind of problem. One glass in the morning, one in the evening, you can drink it with some ice, not as fun as beer but better than hot tea when it's warm.

Oh you have no idea how many litres of cranberry juice I have drank, and what else I tried for that :( It sucks being a woman sometimes. But it seems I have made it successfully this time without Antibiotiocs. So time to lift my butt from the couch and be productive :D)
