BFS 10 Years, Mystery Twitches?

I have had BFS for 10 years. Went throught the entire work up a few times, all negative. A few weeks back while drinking a glass of wine I noticed a strange sensation on my chin, right benath my lips. sure enough the muscle was twitching. On closer examination, when i would pucker my lips strongly the muscle on my left side(the one that runs down from the lips) looks differnt than on the right. There is a dent on the left muscle and none on the right. Strange as I never noticed this before, but also never really looked. After 3 weeks the area still feels strange. Concern has set in. Anyone have facial muscle asymmetry?

I really wouldn't worry if you aren't noticing a recent change. I've had plastic surgery and remember being told that nothing on are bodies is exactly symmetrical.

Yeah if you take a mirror and place it against your face vertically, you will see that one half of your face often looks nothing like the other half. I remember doing that in school in a science experiment during 4th grade biology class. I wouldn't guess there is one person on this planet who is 100% symmetrical. In fact, most people don't even truly realize what they look like anyway, since the only image you see of yourself tends to be a mirror image.

Thanks for the feedback. I have lived with BFS for 10 years, this just feels differnet to me. The area that looks differnt, feels differnt when I drink or speak. However, I do realize how powerful the mind is and how we can focus on a specific area until it feels strange. Hopefully it is nothing and the origianl sensation I felt was due to the muscle fasics.

The face is not normally symmetrical . In fact, the more symmetrical it is the more attractive you appear to the opposite sex. This is nothing to worry about. You would be dead long ago if you had als.

I have readly accepted the BFS diagnosis, but always have the fear of the more ominious disease in the back of my mind. Especially when a new symptom like this appears out of nowhere. Really feel like my muscles may be weak below my lip.

I suggest you go to the mirror, smile and look at the area of muscles your are concerned about, you should see some considerable differences from one side of the face to the other, then find a picture, at least a year old of you smiling, perferably a close up shot, and you will see the same thing. I had the exact same experience, was sure I saw atrophy around my face, I was later wandering around the house, probably planning my funeral, I was looking at a family picture, seeing my daughters and thinking how I was not going to see them grow up, then I looked at my picture, then looked closer, "son of b---the dents had always been there, just never looked. Also, as we age our faces change, of course.

I can only see the differemce in the muscle by puckering my lips. i can't see a difference by smiling or just looking at my face. The only reason I even noted this , is that the twitches in the muscle first stared when I was drinking a glass of wine. It was a very sudden sensation and has not disspaeared in several weeks. This is a first for me as to one area feeling subjesctively different than another are. i guess it is time to see my Neurologist.
