Banning HGTV: Musings on Electricity

I am working on my house recently, my wife wants stainless steel appliances. On a side note, I am banning her from HGTV. The TV makes it seem so much easier to do this stuff than it is in real life.At any rate, since I have been working around electricity I have been thinking about electricity controlling nerves. And what might have happened the various times I have shocked myself. Now it has been quite a few years, I remember last shocking myself putting in a ceiling fan. Before than when I was a stupid kid. Or my dad was a DIY and sometimes his 'projects' would not be very contained. So your hand might catch a spark.I also remember how when I used to turn on the light to my kitchen, It would arc and shock me.Then I had this car which used to shock me when I would touch the door latch. I kid not, I think it was something about static electricity from the tires.A I wondering, but seriously just thinking that maybe I upset my nervous system through some time of shock.

I don't know if there's any validity to this theory or not, but I -will- say that I get shocked way more than the average person. There isn't a day in my life where I don't shock myself on a car door or a metal hinge or a doorknob at least 15 or 20 times a day. And this has been happening way before I ever had BFS symptoms, I have pretty much been a shock magnet my entire life.Like I said, I don't know if this has anything to do with BFS or not, but I have always wondered it myself. Maybe my body just conducts electrical signals weird. Maybe that is why my nerves are so sensitive and jumpy all the time.

If you look on the myoclonus discussion board at wemove.org, there is a poster named BuzzLightning who says he started twitching and jerking after some sort of electrical incident. Also, my neurologist used to be an electrical engineer. He went into medicine after concluding that electrical impulses in the brain were very similar to those he observed in electrical engineering.

I've been zapped by a power outlet and a few other ways as a kid, doubt this is my cause though..There's also an electricity therapy device I've used that's good for anxiety - you clip some electrodes from the device on your ear and the alternating pulses make you sleepy in minutes :D)

I've done my own electric work since I was 18 or so (about 20 years). Have probably been shocked with 120 volts 15 amps or less about a half dozen times. Never got hit by 240 volts or amps higher than 15 though.Started twitching about 3.5 years ago with no electrical shock event that stands out.

VERY interesting theory ...i say that because about 2-3 weeks ago when my left arm started getting extremely bad, I was shocked when doing some electrical to one of my rentals houses. I got the full brunt of 110v from a bare wire (stupid me, I didn't realize the panel had been turned back on)thats right about when my left arm started getting extremely wacky .... hmmmmm

Probably coincidentally, not long before I started to have thitches, I had been using electrostimulation as part of "muscle training"/"conditioning".Needless to say, I never thought to try again when my twitches had started...

I actually work in a power plant as an operator, surrounded by high voltage wires the highest being 138 kv!Electromagnetic fields have been blamed for a lot of stuff! I am at work today and I do feel much more twitchy today. That being said when I'm not here I can have just as bad a day.Lefty
