Bad Day and Worrisome Twitching

I am having a bad day. First, I noticed the foot fasics last night, but calmed down after reading that fasics in the instep is common.

Then, after reading that foot and hand fasics are indicators of ALS, I decided to "check out" my hands. I could not believe it, but I have a contracting, faint twitch on my right hand. It is on my palm, between the bottom of the pinkie and the wrist. I thought I was imagining it at first. It resembles the fasics on the feet and I CANNOT FEEL IT! It is not a one time thing, either. Faint and every few minutes.

(Note: I read a story about a doctor who said most of his ALS patients presented with atrophy/weakness in one hand. The doctor pointed out the
hand twitches to them cause they never noticed them.)

Would ALS present this way? I mean twitching in the left calf jumping to the right foot then to the right hand with no weakness after two months??? Or have I had this for a while and not known? Even then, would it progress in this random fashion?

PLEASE! Are hand twitches common in BFS?

Thanks as always,
Peg

My hands twitch all the time. My fingers move. They might move over, hold and pop back into place. I twitch in the web between my fingers. The pad below my thumbs twitch and the back of my hand sometimes does too. I haven't really noticed any that I can't feel because I tend to only look when I feel them.

I twitch in my hands too-mostly the left. could you be looking at a pulsating vessel? Twitches that jump around like that I don't believe to be bad.

My hands also twitch...think everyone has it once in awhile. Read BFS in a nutshell again, hand/finger twitches are mentioned.

I've had hand twitches for years, nothing ever came of one. Also, I have a tricep twitch that has gone on and off for over 7 months. Again, no weakness, no worries.

I know how you feel Peg, I've been there. Your letting your anxiety take over and believe me, it will feed itself. Anxiety makes twitches MUCH WORSE, no doubt about that. Ask ANYONE here. Anxiety well take you to places where it isn't worth going, because it takes away from enjoyment of life and living it.

You don't have ALS. You have an Anxiety Disorder. Been there, done that. Still working on it, as a matter of fact. Don't let the fear take over, as it then becomes the "boss" your every waking moment.

Keep doing the math, Peg. And remember, twitching is indicative of no pathology...it's normal. Check some of Uber's posts out, he has said it best.

Your body if fine....it is your mind that's getting you. I understand how you feel, but remember, this will pass. Just keep your chin up, and STOP thinking about twitching, as it is meaningless.

Be Steady, God Bless.

It's like I have four hot spots going at once. My left calf is constantly twitching in two different places, the bottoms of both feet are constantly moving, and now my hand. All the twitches look the same, like indentations going in and out. It's not constant as in every second, but it is frequent -- every couple of minutes.

The only ones I can feel are the calves -- but the others are tiny. My feet do buzz, however.

I just didn't know if this was normal or if you guys just get "one hitters" here and there all day long.

The feet and hands scare me, but I really thought ALS began in one limb and spread from there -- not both feet and a left calf and a right hand! I can imagine all over twitching with end stage ALS, but c'mon! I have no weakness! What is going on?

Before I took my pm klonopin I was twitching all over in the following places: both calves, feet, upper arms, hands, ass, above my knees. I took the K and it has now stopped Everything you are explaining on her sounds so much like me and many others. I think you are fine.

Peg,

I have twitching I can feel going on in multiple places at all times, primarily in my calves. My calves move, there are frequent twitches above both my knees, behind my thighs, on my upper thighs, my upper arms, hands sometimes wrists and forearms. My back gets twitches, lower back and once behind my neck which was weird. I get one in my lower lip and in the begining of all this, my forehead and eye would twitch almost constantly (since anxiety is lower, these are gone). On Klonopin all is better, but if I think about it, I can feel it and sometimes catch one I can see. My husband, sister and mom have each "seen'" a twitch, which took a long time, because by the time I would go to show them, the twich would have moved. Neuro still hasn't seen one other that on emg - which was normal.

I feel like I have certain hot spots all over the place - in other words the twtches come in the same general spots but they rove around except for constant in calves. Also, I get cramps sometimes (2x per week or so) in my feet which make my feet look like they are having a babinski relfex, but my neuro says this has nothing to do with the reflex which in my case is normal.

I'm wondering, is mine like the worst case of twithing of all time? Please let me know if there's anyone else out there with this bad of a case.

Peg,

I had that pinkie-to-wrist twitch just a week ago. It was a very subtle twitch that caused my pinkie to jerk while I was typing. It was on and off for about 2 days and then went away. Yours will probably fade off too. Try not to think about it or stare at it.

Ava-I twitch EVERYWHERE from face to toe every few seconds 24/7. Sometimes several times per second. It never lets up except for one day in 2 years where I went a good 15 minutes w/out twitching. It's very un-nerving. I find that I even eat my dinner while walking around so I can eat in peace! Even the muscles under my collarbone twitch. The bottoms of my feet and ankles and calves are the worst.

Ava,

Mine have gotten worse.

Mine began with an upper lip twitch one night that twitched for what seemed like forever!

I twitch in different locals in my calves always (except when moving, of course). They hit above knees, hams (once in awhile), quads (not as frequent).

This A.M. I woke up and each bicep was thumping. First the right, then the left, then the right again.

I lifted weights upper body yesterday (biceps, triceps and back were worked). I wonder if this made my twitches worse?????? I think I'm going to post this question.....

I am trying not to stare at my hands. But now it seems like my left hand is also doing it to some extent. It is more like a muscle slowly contracting . . . I am starting to wonder if this is a twitch or me contracting those tiny muscles. Too much reading ALS symptoms can cause you to notice weird things!!!

My calf also looks like contracting muscles, but it goes on constantly and I can feel it. Also, any time I look at my insteps, some little patch of skin is moving.

So, I have non-stop twitching feet, twitching hands, twitching calf and a few random thumpers in knee and thighs. Eyelids too, but that has stopped for a while.

I refuse to believe ALS would strike in both feet and both hands all at once. And no weakness anywhere.

Peg,

Everything you mentioned, I too have. Its hard not to keep looking at it all isn't it? But I find when I am engrossed in a good book or activity it let's me off the hook for awhile.

The comment you made about refusing to admit it would strike both hands feet etc. at once I agree with. At the rate I am twitching, if this was ALS I should be immobilized by now - sometimes this logic helps me through. Override the fear with logic - I keep trying and sometimes it works!

Ava

P.S. to Steph, thanks for posting about your symptoms which are a lot like mine. Your support is nice.

If I move my hand to the side or squeeze my wrist I can make it happen every time. Also, to some extent on the other hand too. You think this is just a nerve compression thing??? This is too weird!

My right hand gets twitches between the index finger and thumb, also the middle finger twitches alot, the back of the hand too. My question to you is does your hand, wrist, forearm feel tight almost like it was flexed?

Well my hand / fingers twitch like that alot, in fact it is the most prominent place for the past two months. I was asking about the wrist / forearm because mine has felt that way for the last couple months with the twitching - they seem to go together with me. Try not to dwell on it too much - I know thats hard to do, but try to find something that will occupy your attention enough to not think about it for awhile. I pray God gives you peace in your mind and heart.
