....i have a strange feeling in the lower back, like some nerves would be pulled...... i once heard that backpain can be a very early symptom of the three letter word.....has anyone heard of that?i also have a strange pulling below the knee, where the muscle responsable for the foot drop is....

Laurent, ALS is misdiagnosed with lower back problems if there is weakness, wasting and/or twitching. The main difference is that there is NO pain with ALS - that is the most important differential diagnosis. If there is pain and atrophy-weakness, the problem is compressed spine cord, the most often its disc protrusion.ALS patiens can have pain too, but its because their back muscles supporting the body are weaker and the spine is with less support. Thats why one of the strenght test is to lift up from lying to sitting without using hands.Few days ago I was pretty bad, last 2-3 days I twitch only rarely...the only change is one beer before I go to sleep and I stop taking antidepressants. Maybe strange, but my twitching is much better.

Sue, I have that pulling feeling in my shoulders too, and have had for 16 months. Mine comes and goes and gets worse in the cold and in the morning. It is like stiffness, but then not really. lol. Sometimes my thighs ache, and sometimes my feet. I am not weak, but I do have pain. Glad you are better than you were. Linda

thanks mates.....i have the pulling in the shoulders too, especially after exercising.....you know ue, what i am afraid of is the progression in to weakness as i know that there are cases where als began with twitches....people with twitches for several months without real weakness as you describe it and finally developped als.....;-( it is only my fourth month now i am into this....so still time to progress after that....

Does anyone else get a pulling feeling behind their knees? I guess pulling is as good a way to describe it as I can. I've also said it's a nerv-y feeling. Also, sometimes it seems like this feeling radiates to the point where I swear I feel it in my teeth (that nails on a chalkboard feeling in my teeth).Jess
