Back Pain After 4-Week Break

I never thought i would come back on here once again and ask a silly question, but here goes nothing :I just had 4 weeks off from work, and the back pain / back stiffness that i have been experiencing went away, untill i started working again. I really hope its all just anxiety like my doctor said to me, however, i do have a few things that scare the *beep* out of me : - When i opened a heavy door in a parking garage, the muscles in that arm went 'short circuit'.. like 1000 tiny muscles were going nuts and i felt allot of electric shocks going through my arm. I dont know if this is caused by the extreme cold during that time.-After i started working last week, i now have a new symptom : Tingling sensations and pins and needles. Are these common with anxiety and stress? I do seem to tense up when i walk on the street or when i'm at work for no apparent reason.. i really dont know why. The back stiffness and random pains are back. The tingling sensations or 'pins and needles' come and go just like the muscle twitches, and are usually in my arms or legs / feets. Does anyone else experience these sensations? Thanks,

Hi 'Nervous Guy'(I am another nervous guy by the way!)Your description of some sensory symptoms (pins and needles or tingling or electric shock feeling...) goes totally against a diagnosis of ALS in my opinion which, as you may have read, causes only motor symptoms (weakness etc...).A good number of BFS patients do experience sensory symptoms so I think the advent of your new symptoms is reassuring.CheersSimon

I have the pins and needles/tingling all over. This came months after the twitching. My third NCV test showed severe abnormalities in my sensory nerve conduction. The first two NCV test were normal. My neuromuscular specialist specifically said that he doesn't think the worst because that disease does not usually come with such severe sensory nerve problems. I have no problems feeling my body parts, it's just tingling. I know it's not anxiety because of the NCV test results and because I've been anxious many times before but never got these symptoms. My doc also said the twitching and tingling were both nerve hyperexciteability just different types of nerves. I'm seeing another neuro tomorrow. He's not as specialized or credentialed as my other doc but he's a referral from my HMO so any tests he orders are free. I thought I'd better start getting as much follow-up blood word done for free since it's starting to add up. I am going to ask him his thoughts on how quickly my NCV test went from normal to severely abnormal (3 weeks in between the two). When I asked my other doc, he was defensive about the question. I think he didn't want to criticize another doctor but felt their tests weren't done properly. Just a guess.Krackersones

I have "pin and needles", tingling and worst "pin pricks' sensations all over.+ twitches. Those "pin pricks" hurts! They are felt the same way as twitches, brief, sudden in one spot.I know that sensory disturbances as parts of BFS but ... Good luck

NG1 - What do you do at work? Being the practical voice isn't very glamorous but here goes - poor postural alignment can set things off in many negative ways. Even though I have been diagnosed (BCFS) I found it perfectly acceptable that my friend, who has no nerve problems, also has a lot of trouble with her back when she sits at the computer for hours on end at work. The human body was not 'engineered' for sitting. Plus it is very common for nerves to get pinched when muscles are tight (like when it's cold). 'Pins and needles' is also a common problem - not just for bfs'ers but for anyone whose circulation in an area is compromised for whatever reason. Sir on your legs for a while in a kneeling position and see what happens to your feet and lower legs. What I'm saying is that it may not always be bfs that brings these things on although I think it may make us more susceptible to them and for many, more aware of them when they do occur.
