No idea what it might be, but I've had something similar. At one point, right before I started twitching in my hand, I got some severe pain in my upper back. It was so bad I couldn't get my upper arms any higher than parallel to the floor. That lasted for a few days, then subsided with no ill effects two years later. My guess is that I trapped a nerve (a variant of thoracic outlet syndrome, perhaps) and that it resolved itself.
Muscle pain is hardly uncommon, especially as we age, and nerve pain is relatively common as well. If you're sure it's not a cardiac issue, it'll resolve on its own with rest and (for your comfort) anti-pain meds like acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen, and acetominophen (that's aspirin, Motrin, and Tylenol
