I have Antiphospholipid Syndrome - an autoimmune condition that causes my blood to be in a hypercoagulative state. I was diagnosed with it about 16 years ago. I am on Coumadin for life due to this. Every few years they check for the antibodies and I'm still producing them. In college I had a severe case of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura - an autoimmune condition in which my body was destroying my platelets almost as fast as it was creating them. I found out later that ITP is often secondary to APLS, so they may be related. Currently I'm having issues with my ANA levels. The titer was above what could be measured on the test (over 1:2560). APLS is sometimes secondary to Lupus, however I have none of the clinical signs or symptoms of Lupus. My rheumatologist has ordered additional tests to determine the subsets of the ANA I am producing. I had an appointment with my hematologist yesterday. I have been taking minocycline for years and according to him, it can cause drug induced lupus and high ANA, so I stopped taking it last night. I see the rheumatologist again a week for those test results so I will mention this to him. I hope this is the case for me. My rheumatologist, hematologist and neurologist all claim BFS is not autoimmune related, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. BTW, I started with BFS in Jan of this year. Take care, -Nancy
