Asking about Muscle Aches and Pain

I'm sorry I don't post often. I do read many threads. If you don't recognise me, I've had twitching since early 2002. I'm still not 100% sure I have BFS; my Health Anxiety refuses to accept my body could be suffering from something benign. MS is my biggest fear...but I still can't force myself to the Doctor.Anyway, I wanted to ask whether any other BFSers experience Muscle Aches and pain in their joints. For the last few days I've had quite severe aches in my muscles, - mainly in my shoulders, left arm, legs, and back. This morning my left hip joint hurt while I was walking, but improved after about half an hour. I've had pain across my chest for a few hours this morning and again this afternoon. The rest of the day I've had pain in my legs which has gradually worsened, and now I'm feeling exhausted and very sore. I've experienced muscle aches on and off for years, usually in my legs and back. I am 6'2, which doesn't help: I think I probably put a lot of strain on my back and my legs because they're often squeezed into uncomfortable places. On Sunday I was kneeling down for a long time putting furniture together, but I keep thinking that a young, healthy (aside from twitching) 25 year old shouldn't have to deal with pain after doing simple. Although I've had leg pain before, this is the first time my shoulders and chest have hurt. I'm a little concerned. I've had pain in other parts of my body as well, although they seem more sporadic. Could this be a symptom of BFS? I've not twitched much the last few days, so perhaps my nervous system's given up on that for a bit and moved onto something else. Is it a common problem? Any suggestions about how to combat it? I've tried a hot bath which did help but didn't eradicate the pain.

Yep, totally "BFS Normal". Also, though, dont discount the fact that you might have picked up a mild flu type bug. It is going around big time right now, and I know alot of people who have had it, myself included. I was really achy in muscles and joints, and felt really run down and exhausted for about two days this week, then all better. It could be as simple as that. Nonetheless, its nothing to worry about I'm sure. ;) If it gets worse, go see the Doctor, and I bet you've just got the flu bug. Icky! :( ~*~Amy~*~

Generalized aches and pains are in my opinion never anything serious unless they are so bad you are not able to live a quality life. In that case, you talk to your doctor and see if they can find a problem (your posture, arthritis, etc) and if necessary take some pain meds (maybe even over the counter ones from time to time). Over the counter pain meds are used by millions so obviously aches and pains are normal even in the young. My brother who is in his 20s was in the Marines. He said they gave out Motrin like candy to lots of young men not for battle wounds but from training and general aches and pains. The fact that your twitching has decreased is great. You may be able to put that concern away too.Krackersones

I too suffered with widespread pains in joints and muscles. I would suggest having your thyroid and Vit D levels checked. Both can cause exactly what you have described.Linda

I get aches and pains in muscles and joints too! Primarily calves, feet and forearms... hard to tell what causes them quite honestly.Could be a result of so many things, I really try not to focus on it... heck, I can still run around hold my son, who is getting so big, so must not be too bad??Andrea

Aches and pains were a large part of my BFS experience in the beginning. They are no more than any "normal" person's now. Seriously, at 25, you have nothing to worry about.

Hello to you all!I have a similar question, so I don't open a new post but reply here: does anyone experience pain in his/her calves after squatting down?I was never a person who could kneel long, sit on his heels or cross-legged, so normally I'm not worried about it. But the last days I have aching thighs and calves more than normal, so it's something new.As a background info: I have epilepsy so I'm visiting a neuro regularly and he always said I have nothing to worry about. But I was still anxious about ALS, found this forum and am very happy about the help I get here - which I need sometimes to be able to cope with symptoms. Just as now :)

I have this too: either from squatting down or kneeling down and resting against my legs. I get aches for days afterwards. You're not alone at all!I'm trying to learn not to kneel or squat for too long and to try and sit on my bottom if I need to be down on the floor for more than a minute or two.

Hi,I have this problem too, it's a huge part of my BFS. I can't even hang out the washing or change bed sheets without my arms hurting like crazy. My legs ache all the time. I have two children and sometimes i can't bear it if they lean on my legs to climb onto my lap as the pain is awful. It's been worrying me for a while.Zoe
