IM so upset today, just feel almost to a break down. my throat will not stop this constant girgling! It's been 4 months straight. Went to and ENT he looked down my throat with a scope and said everything looked normal other than a little mucus but no pooling. he prescribed my 2 meds to see if it would help and it didn't. I called him back yesterday and he would like to do a barium swallow test now. I can't help but get upset, what if this has to do with a nuero problem. is there any knowledge any of u an give me to ease my mind that this wouldn't be Al's. I'm constantly thinking its dysphasia/ Al's throat problems. i appreciate any words u are able to give me. Ashley

Ash, As you know I have had problems in that area for years. Throat gurgling, acid reflux and at times dysphagia. It is a very common symptom of GERD and anxiety and I know that it really sucks. In many instances, like mine, the doctors find nothing wrong. It has nothing to do with ALS. Just be patient and it will get better, but you have to focus on calming down first.Mike
thank you guys, Im just very upset. The dr has called a barium swallow test for the 10th of Oct as well as a speach pathologist will be there. I can't help but get terrible anxiety I just cant calm down. This freaks me out, what if they give me the words ashley your throat muscles are not working properly. I think Im more nervous about this than my emg. 
Ashley,I have had barium swallows, upper endoscopies, acid ph tests, eosohegeal mammotry all of that crap due to my problems. The barium swallows show if you have acid reflux, your swallowing mechanism and to detect a hiatal hernia. It is not a big deal. I know you are going to be fine!Mike
hi ash, im sorry your so stressed and upset at the moment honey....please believe me when i say that what u describe sounds like GERD or indigestion..very very common with anxiety, my hubby has gastritis and i tell u he gurgles all the time...and if your throat muscles werent working properly u wouldnt be talking properly..once u get your barium swallow i bet a million dollars there is nothing wrong ok..please try not to stress as stress makes your stomach and everything else upset...shanny

Ash I thought of you yesterday when I was drinking water and had gurgling in my throat. It can happen if you swallow too much air, etc. I am sure its nothing. Good luck on your test even though we know it will be normal 
I went to the dr today, had the swallow test done. Everything is perfectly normal, in fact the sweet speech pathologist who performed the test said I'm the perfect text book of a a plus swallow and my muscles work exactly how there supposed to. she said my speech is perfect absolutely zero sign of a nuero problem. I actually for once in 3.5 years feel reassured! I haven't believed any dr up until this point! This was the deal breaker for me! I'm moving on that is a promiss to myself. I can girgle all day and night now and now worry its something sinister! Thanks to all of u, I very much appreciate all ur comfort ashley
