Anxious About Chiropractic Neurologist Visit

Hello. I was a little worried with my visit to the chiropractic neurologist. I of course had brisk knee reflexes but I also had an abnormal reflex to my thumb on my left hand ( my problem hand). When he tapped it it moved and then kept moving for about 4 or 5 beats. He said that was abnormal. I also had an absent abdominal reflex and so of course my anxiety is through the roof. I went home and googled these things and of course it's leading me to some scary things. Apparently the abnormal reflex is clonus? I don't find out until Tuesday the results of the exam since he ordered an x-ray on my spine and neck. I am NOT good at waiting!

Monica, I wouldn't be very concerned wo any sig. weakness. Reflexes are such a subjective thing, I know it blows to have to see Dr after Dr, but if someone told me my reflexes were abnormal, I would see another neuro with many years of practice for a second opinion.

Monica, why didnt you ask the doc who was examining you, what these abnormal reflexes could mean?? Maybe you can call them after the holiday and ask.I have clonus in both my ankles since this stuff started, and brisk reflexes pretty much all over. At first these findings were a big deal, but after all the test have come back negative, they mean very little other than anxiety and a hyper nervous system according to my neuro. But dont ever hesitate to ask questions when you are told that there is an abnormal finding when being examined, because if you dont, the" what ifs" and Dr. Google will rob you of your sanity, trust me on that one.Take CareRobynn

Thanks for the props Chris, yes I defiantly have clonus, but its not pathological, I have funky clonus that waxes and wanes, so far, no doc has been impressed by my funky ankle clonus. I'm unimpressive.

Running bear- the doctor did say I have weakness on my left hand. When he did strength tests he axed me if I could see the difference. I don't know why I didn't ask him what it could mean. I guess I get my answers on Tuesday. Thanks mommyLDN!

Monica,Is a chiropractic neurologist an MD or a chiro? Why do you have to wait for the results of your X ray?? I am guessing / hoping that the dr ordered it and hasn't yet seen it? Is that how they left your appointment - "You have abnormal reflexes and asymetrical weakness, and I need to see your X ray, have a nice weekend" . . . that is horrible medicine!! And also I have seen quite a few MDs since I started having my BFS crap and none of them ever ordered an X ray, but instead went right to the MRI and or EMG.

I was thinking the very same thing. Not trying to say all Chiropractic docs are bad, but from my personal experience, they like to find alot of stuff wrong so you have to keep coming back, and you always have to wait for the x-ray results, even though alot of them take them rite in there office. So I would be a little skeptical but still keep an open mind and see what he tells you. It just bothers me that he found all this stuff already but her regular neuro said nothing about any of it, and I am pretty sure that a neuro always checks strengths with every neuro exam, wouldnt he have picked up on her left hand being weaker than her right?? I'm curious to see what this guy says Tuesday, he's got me scratching my head a little, wait...no....thats BFS making me itch.
