Anxiety & Twitching: My Story

Didn't think I would be back here freakin out but here I am. Bare with me while i teill my story. Last DEC I had issues with my hands feeling tired and achy and cold. Couldn`t figure it out so i went to google in JAN and yes you no the rest. The day i read about *** i started to have major anxiety and and started twitching thats why for me i have always thought my bfs was brough on by anxiety. Anyways it wasn`t until june i saw a pyhsio therpist specialist who said that i have a nerve compression issue due to bad posture brought on by a neck injury. I started treatment and my hands and forearms actually got better. In the one year i have put on around 12lbs of muscle from being at the gym every day and also completed a season of football. Which until recently had kept my fears at bay. However since a few months ago i have noticed neck throat jaw area very tight and also have been noticing tongue twitches now. Either becuse of the tongue or tightness around mouth I have on rare occaion slurred and chin and throat have gone numb. This started to scare me agian especially after notcing the twitiching so today i went to see the same sepecailist. I told about my tightness and right away he wanted to see my tongue, this kind of cought me of gaurd cuase i didn`t mention my toungue yet. He performed a test differemt from what the neuro performed. He wanted me to lift my tongue up. Right away he noticed weakness. Now i was almost trembling. Anyways he says that because of my bad posture i have been keeping my tongue pressed to my bottom teeth and i keep my mouth open while sitting he claims that since this has been going on probably for a year i have lost strength and now will get me rehabbing toungue.I have explained this to my wife but she doesn`t understand the fear that bfs`ers have and hearing that you have weakness in a tongue that twitches is not a good thing to hear. I dont want to go back to the freakin out days thats why i`m here. Here are my positive thoughts. After 1 yr of *** which i thought started in my hands there is now way i can be lifting heavy wights or playing football or gaining muscle. My originall syptoms that brought me here have improved. As for toungue weakness when pushing up i assume with *** it not a direction that it effects it effects the whole muscle i guess thats why the neuro made me put tongue to cheek. If it was *** i would probably having some serious issues and probably in a wheelchair. I can probably go on and on but i know that you guys can relate to my fears so any thoughts advice or comments on my situation is apprecaited. Thanks guys.

I have had tongue twitches and full bodywide twitches for 17 months now. I also have no weakness and have gained strength since the onset of the twitching. I also have a muscle biopsy from over a year ago showing denervation. So from these facts you know I relate to your story and fears. I do wonder what your neuro specifically said in response to your concerns. I hope you addressed them with him or her directly. I ask my neuros a lot of questions and at first the lack of certainty (meaning I don't think you have ALS at all but I don't know exactly what you have) made me more afraid but now it is actually a source of comfort. Given all the people here with various issues including the tongue but nothing worse and the admission of the neuros that they do not fully understanding all the causes of twitching and other issues, it seems that there just are phenomenon that exist that just have to be dealt with symptom wise and with the onset of the Internet we are better able at finding each other and knowing that the phenomenon can coexist with a normal life. It is hard though not to want certain answers. I take what I can get and just try to keep enjoying what I do have which is a lot. If you just finished playing a season of football, life must be pretty good. My husband played college football at UC Berkeley and then played semipro so I know a little about what goes into the sport. I hope others have some reassuring words for you.Krackersones

Thanks for the reply JRO you always seem to be willing to give others help quickly.I actully saw a neuro twice in april and then july. He said that i had bfs and thats really it. He did do a clinical and did do the tongue to cheek test which was fine and stil is. It was a phisiotherapist that said that my toungue weekness was linked to my poor posture and said that i had weakness lifting my tongue upward he also did say that it is common with people with chronin neck injuries.
