Anxiety Over Leg Stiffness Symptoms

I made a huge mistake & went googling again & also looked at the als forums. I am really freaking out b/c I saw that one of the early symptoms is stiffness. I have been experiencing this in my left leg & it is making me walk funny. I feel better when I read this forum over, but get so anxious when I saw that someone didn't experience weakness for two years. I am so worried that the stiffness is some precursor to weakness. I have had it for a week now. I have been twitching for over a year. I really need some help here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If stiffness is a first sign of ALS that is the first I heard of that. Also I would be in some big trouble then because since BFS(a year) I have had alot of stiffness, fingers, legs, arms, neck, etc. you name it. Sometimes my fingers are so stiff it takes it a few seconds to release when I hold onto something tight. The first sign of ALS most of the time is weakness and then comes twitches. Stiffness can be part of PNHE/BFS. PLease stay off the ALS site. I have never been on that site but can only imagine how scary it must be to read what they say but you must not go on there. Just come to the board when you feel like you need an answer...Dont worry you have had this for a year, you would have weakness and would know if you had ALS..Jenn

Hey

I have stiffness as well. Feet in the morning are real bad until I get going. My body seems to stiffen up after sitting for a short while but comes right once I start moving. It's a bloody nuisance but from what I've read on this forum I'm not the only one, so hopefully just a BFS symptoms.

Stiffness (a particular kind of it) can be an early sign of neuromuscular disorders like ALS and MS. It's much more common for stiffness to be a symptom of aging. We're all getting older—I suspect that most people's stiffness is nothing more than garden-variety aging.

In my case the stiffness does not involve a joint (arthritis) and is not related to age. It's a much more profound stiffness (tightness) of muscle groups. It affects mainly the calves of both legs and hamstrings of both legs. Some days are better than others but if you have this you know its not tightness related to normal aging.

I am with you Swift_TaySwift20. I know it is not my bone it is surely in my muscle and none of this I had until BFS. I still think I just have the more severe form of PNHE.

I never knew that stiffness was a sign for MS or ALS. I thought ALS it is mainly weakness and MS is more vision problems and numbness. Anyway I think after a year I would surely know if I had MS or ALS so I am not going there :p ..ok going to do some pushups now and walk on toes and heels..lol...Jenn

There is a british lady who has als and stiffness was her first symtom in one foot then the other foot, then spread. The way she talked about stiffness was not like the stiffness on this forum but like spasticity type stiffness i also saw a man on tv with the stiffness, his hands were stiff like two bricks, thats als stiffness plus he had widespread fasciculations and in a wheelchair after 18 months from his first twitch.
