ALS and Eye Muscle Twitching

I know I have posted this so many times at this point, but eyelid twitching is its own thing: myokymia.I've had it since I was a little girl - off an on. It's actually the only twitch in my body that I can ignore because I'm so used to it.

Calm down simonaa, your ok...eye twitching is the most common form of benign twitching there is....most people in the world have had eye twitching at one time or another.....Shannon

I went to the eye doctor last year for an eye twitch that wouldn't stop. It had been going on for 4 weeks. I learned at that visit my eyes are extremely dry and I began using gel artificial tears daily. I haven't had an eye twitch since. Incidentally, my optometrist thought it was funny I was worried about an eye twitch that lasted a month...he said his wife's bottom left lid twitched for nearly a year...and one day she woke up and it had stopped. ~Frances

I've been experiencing month long eyelid twitching since this started in 2004. When I had my EMG, I mentioned it to my neurologist and he said that eyelid twitching is rarely ever pathologic. Now, fast forward to 2011. I've had them in both my top and bottom eyelids, both sides. In fact, as I type this my upper right eyelid is twitching. It has been doing it more days than not since April 2010. This past July my upper left joined in and does it, too more days than not. My only relief comes from visits to receive Botox injections. I've been doing it for the lower lids and will be doing it in a week or so for the upper (have to be more careful with those because of the potential for ptosis). So, do not worry about any correlation between eyelid twitching and ALS, it simply is not a symptom. Annoying as hell, that is for sure.

with eyelid twitch my BFS Story has begun.Last Year in December my Eyelid started to twitch..many days..many weeks, many Months ( Monate )Than in Apri ( 6.April ) Im going to Dr.Google an surch "Eylid twitch" an then i read about Muscle twitch and ALS and WAHHHHH Im so in Fearabout what i read in Internet!!!From this day i begun twitching everywhere on my body!!!Every second another Muscle!!I mean its magig ??hahahah sorry for my englisch i hope you can read and understand what i mean:)

Eyelid twitching is the most common Benign twitch. Anything can trigger eyelid twitching but the most common is stress. Usually doctors will not think twice about eyelid and calf twitching.

NorthernDave - calf twitching too? I can't imagine that, because half of us would have been dismissed by our doctors....? Probably not calf twitching like mine though, where it's constant and pops every 10 seconds or so, or worse at bad times....I've had eye twitching since I was a child. Sometimes lasting for days, and irritating, but I always chalked it up to tiredness. I still do. The more tired I am, the more my eye twitches. It doesn't really twitch like my calves with BFS.Mitra
