Alcohol Consumption and Peripheral Neuropathy

Hi all fasics are starting to die down but I seem to be suffering a lot of stinging and burning sensation in the buttocks and hamstrings when I sit down,.I was doing some research on the web about peripheral neuropathy and here was an element regarding alcohol. I drink pretty much 28/36 units a week. I'm wondering if my stinging, burning could be down to my alcohol consumption. Out of interest is there anyone out there who suffers in the same way? Cheers

This leg issues are very common for BFS and I know at least 2 members (me included) that do not drink alcohol at all (or only minimal amounts) and have it too. Nevertheless I am a bit shocked about the fact that you drink that much alcohol. We have / had 5 alcoholics in our family, 2 got "dry", 2 died of pancreatic cancer, one in an alcohol related "accident" .....THIS is the stuff that kills more people than ALS . They all started their career below the level you are now on....I don't want to sound too much like a party pooper, but I have before stumbled over the fact that some people on here try to heal their BFS with alcohol. I am not sure if choking on your own vomit is a better death than ALS of which people on here are afraid of....We are all perfecly healthy here except some annoying twitching and other stuff, no need to ruin our bodies with that stuff..

Lol, I just figured out that it is apparently considered still normal to drink up to maximum 28 units a week if you life in the UK...if you live in Emilyomousey, any amount above 14 units for a male person is considered to be on your way to alcoholism, same for the US and some other countries. But your alcohol consumption is absolutely OK if you live in UK, Ireland or Hong Kong and even considered relatively low in Denmark...

Hi Chrissi,Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate your candid remarks :D) You're absolutely rightl I haven't always drunk that many units, it's probably representative of the last three months of my life in which BFS issues have returned, my job was under threat and my dearest brother in law is in the last stages of brain cancer. However the good news is that whilst alcohol does numb some of the stress we all know it's a short term solution. I have stopped drinking alcohol now and am starting to pick up my fitness. I saw the symptoms of burning and stabbing pain materialise over this period and given my level of intake I wondered if any board members who drank similar amounts had experienced this. I'm interested in your symptoms especially the burning and tingling you get in your buttocks and legs. What have you done to reduce the symptoms. Thanks

I do piriformis stretches, a video is on youtube. I am glad you have stopped drinking that much, we don't know erach other of course but I get easily alarmed due to my familal history...glad you are not *beep*, I was a bit concerned if I had extravagated here..

Piriformis stretches, Yep I do those as well. My physio firmly believes it's down to pelvic instability and piriformis issues. He was telling me of a number of papers that have tracked nerve issues and a lot of the time other factors come into play.He told me that those people who suffer from depression, SAD (seasonally affected disorder), lack of sleep will put the body into fight/flight mode. That prescence will see the body produce adrenalin and as the nerves become more and more sensitied it doesn't need a big lift in your adrenalin levels to see nerve pain.Anyway still with him and working daily on pelvic tilt exercises and piriformis. oh what a tangled life we lead.Thank you for your support :D)Hope you're coping well
