Alcohol and BFS Symptom Change?

Well I just had a few beers while bbq'ing 3 racks of ribs, 2 pork shoulders and 2 beef briskets, and I can say that my twitches have magically disappeared. That's a lie. Nothing has changed except I'm a little tipsy, however the meat came out great.

Gary, you just tell me what you want to cook, and i'll hook you up. I'm one of those bbq nerds that enters competitions and our team fares pretty well. Fair warning, though...I know KC bbq style, which is quite different than Texas, Memphis or NC. KC tends to be on the sweet side and ribs always come sauced. We have our own bbq sauce recipe as well as bbq baked beans.

man, i've never met a KC style rib that I didn't like! I've been working on "perfecting" ribs and brisket so long that I finally gave up and just kept eating :D) . That said, I would love to hear what you do to your ribs and brisket.Take care,Gary

I liked the recipe exchanges, but would really like better to hear about original topic if you guys have some experience to share. Thx! Enjoy the culinary delights.

Twitch - I actually already told you my experience with alchohol...stays about the same. And I think your thread got hijacked b/c you made a duplicate in the other forum. Maybe bump that one and see if you can get responses.Gary - rib recipe soon to be posted.

TF - sorry....I drink socially a couple of times a month, other than helping not focus on my twitches, alcohol has no impact on my twitching.JTJ - looking forward to the recipe....maybe pm it. Thanks!Take care,Gary

FYI - Every case of BFS seems to respond differently to alcohol and caffeine. My symptoms increase exponentially, particularly my sensory symptoms, with alcohol use. The twitching in the arches of my feet remains pretty steady, but if I drink a little bit, the skin sensitivity, chills, and electrical sensations become unbearable. If you only have twitches, then maybe alcohol (and caffeine) won't affect you.-Joe

I don't notice any change. Like many others, I have given up various vices--coffee, smoking, soda and alcohol--to see if it had any effect on my fasciculations. It didn't. In the end, I permanently gave up smoking for obvious reasons, and reduced caffeine greatly. I enjoy having a drink or two and it doesn't seem to influence the twitches. But, maybe I didn't go without it long enough to see. :D) -Sean

When I drink, the next day my twitching seems worse. About a week ago I got trashed and the next day I had twitching so bad it was shocking me. They were like mini charlie-horses. Not so bad that I had to jump up and straighten out my foot, but bad enough that I couldn't sit comfortably without getting shocked. But while I'm drinking, the twitching seems to go away because I don't think about it!

I just recently had a baby (and start of BFS) so I don't often drink, but I had one mixed drink last night with dinner. For the first hour I felt fine, no sensory sensations other than one buzzing spot in my thigh. After the alcohol wore off I had pretty intense electrical shocks in my left shoulder/upper back. It was so bad that I wasn't able to relax enough to sleep and had to take Xanax. Ugh, all I wanted to do was just unwind a bit and not think about BFS!
