32 and 6 Weeks of Twitches: Help!

I am 32 and I have full body twitches for the last 6 weeks. i do not think I have had weakness and have an appointment with a Nero on Friday. I have been in an absolute state of fear. I spoke to a nero over the phone who said 99% of the time if you feel and see the twitches it is not ALS. She asked if i had any muscle wasting which I said that I was unsure she said you would know. Everyone please help me as I feel like my life is spinning out of control?

hey tom how you doing buddy, I'm Chad, i completely understand where you are coming from. You are fine my friend, i guarantee it. Your story is so typical for bfs. Or as johnythejet always says "classic bfs". Send me a pm or whatever you wish if you have any questions.

Tom, bodywide twitches, no weakness...not ALS. I was scared out of my mind like you are. Actually sat down to plan my funeral, and here I am 13 months down the road with a case of BFS and nothing else. You would do well to visit your neurologist and BELIEVE THEM when they give you the all clear. You don't want to get into a never ending cycle of anxiety. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.Frances

hi tom, nothing u describe sounds like anything but bfs..im a 18 month twitcher now...i know full well what the fear is like at the start of all this..i still remember thinking ok this is it im finished, this is how im gonna die...but i didnt die and i still live with the twitching everyday...im sure u will be fine..please come back and shared your good news once u see the neuro...best wishes shanny :D)

I feel for you, because I have stood in your shoes. It's so scary prior to your first neuro appointment and naturally you think that you are the anomaly rather than the rule. You have no weakness which is key. You have symptoms like all of us do, and nothing different. You're going to be just fine. I just wish I could take some of that fear away for you. I got my first EMG about a year ago, and prior to the test, I was a complete basket case, crying in front of my children, and so very, very scared. Now, it's been a year, and honestly, I hate that Septembers will probably remind of that dark time a year ago.I wish somehow you could just believe that you're going to be okay, because you are.Mitra

Yes Tom, I get these, especially in my hands. I can feel something moving but cannot see it no matter how hard I look. It is not uncommon among those of us here to have twitches that can be felt and not seen, or vice versa. Perfectly BFS normal.Frances

The one thing that everyone here in this forum is guilty of is trusting the opinion of 1000's of strangers over that of their neurologist. You Neurologist told you their own criteria by which they will examine you and form an opinion of whether further investigation is needed. a) you have no weakness or your post would be very different, or in a different forum, b) you have no muscle wasting (wasting without weakness is impossible) and c) you can see + feel your twitches (even if you dont feel some, the fact that you do others is fine). As in life nothing is ever 100% guaranteed. but if your under 38 years old your odds of being dx with ALS are 165million to 1, even for those older than 38 the odds are drastically in your favour. The fact that you 'twitch' does not change or lower these odds, in the same way that just because you cough does not increase your chance of lung cancer
