2 Years Later: BFS Fears Back Again

Hi all BFS-sufferers,2 years ago, I have posted some post here and found this forum much helpful to go through this tough time. Tks again too all who helped me at that time. Now my fears are back more stronger than ever, pls give me some support and reassurance. My story began in Dec. 2008 with some sensorial problems like tingling, etc. Than in Feb. 2009, when I recognised a twitching in the muscle between the thumb and pointer finger. And I did the same stupid thing like the most of us and asked Google for "help". The results scared me to death. Nevertheless, I went in July 2009 and again in Mai 2010 to a muscle center of an university. The head of the center, checked me out. in 2009 I had the EMG in my muscle between pointer and thumb and an MRI and stretch testing, etc. In 2010 I had a EMG in the left hand and also one in the right hand, where some small dents occured. All EMG were "clean". So since July 2010 I live with the twitching here and there. Somethimes I have the hot spots for mostly one week, but mostly I have the hit and run twitches. Now I have a big flare up in my fears, as the muscle between my pointer and thumb again gives me twitches and twitches now for 1 week somethimes brings my pointer finger to move. Also my left arm and hand look thinner than my right one. But my left hand is my dominatic hand. Now my questions:a) I have never had an EMG in my feet, because there are only randomly some twitches. But I have read some posts here, that you cannot have full reassurance with an EMG only in the hands. Is that right?b) has somebody had an hot spot in the muscle between pionter and thumb for one week? Even brings the pointer finger to move?Any comments are highly appreciated. Thank you all in advance and god bless you.Take careRace

If a twitch is strong enough to literally move your finger back and forth, that sure isn't the sign of a dying muscle. Sounds to me like pretty much the opposite of anything ominous.

For years my big toes have done a back and forth rhythmic dance at weird times. Definitely worse some times than others. Mario is right, first ALS doesn't present with tingling and its twitches don't move fingers.

My right index finger moves ALL the time. In fact, it's wanting to jump as I type this. It's where all my twitching started. I've been doing this thing for 1.5 yrs now. The ALS specialist I saw, said if you can see it, it's not ALS. He said ALS spasms are of single motor units and not an entire muscle which is a lot of motor units firing at once, thus, if you can see the results, it's not ALS. Take heart, you are fine.
