10 Years with BFS - Symptoms

Hi all

I have been with that BFS crap since 1993. So it's 10 years now.
I'm still twiching from place to place. Mainly in calves.
But the worst is that "pin and needle" sensation.
I'm experiencing since 2 weeks a strong increase. I have this mainly on the legs, mainly in calves but also in some degrees in other parts of the body as left arm and face.
Usually, when i wake up, the level of these sensations and twitching is low and increases as time pass.
I was looking to some sort of poisenning .. but i don't see anything.
I had in the past an increase when i was using Aspartame in my coffee. It took me long time to find this. But now, no more Aspartame.
Everybody seems to be worried mostly by twitching than this kind of symtoms.
So i'm not sure it's again BFS that is going on.
Does anyone is experiencing a lot of these sensations? like formication?
Thank you.
bye

Hey Zoulou....

I had a really bad bout of pins and needles just prior to the onset of BFS, but that was five years ago and it hasn't come back since then. But I have read other reports of this parasthesia from other people on the board, and it is documented as well in the article of the Mayo Clinic's infamous BFS study. It's listed as one of the symptoms (if I am remembering correctly....).

Have you been to see a neuro about this though? Most likely the pins and needles sensation is a manifestation of whatever causes BFS...but for peace of mind it makes sense to get it checked out.

Peace, love and happiness,

Jen

Hello Jenn

it's amazing - I also had pins and needle sensation before first twitch. My twitches started in March/April 2003 and form December 2002 to February 2003 I had very strong pins and needles in palms, feet and thights. Since my twitches had started pins and needles heven't apeared anymore.

regards
Marcin

If you have read the old posts, you know that I have been experiencing the exact same thing for over a year. In fact the pins and needles came on before the twitches. I did drastically reduce my caffeine intake. That reduced the symptoms by about 50% I would say, but they still occurr regularly. Nothing else has helped. Had a bad bout last night. My neurologist says not to worry about it. He indicated it is routine with BFS and many people seem to have these sensations. He says some kind of generalized nerve irritation. Good luck.

I know that pins and needles can be a part of BFS, but what is special in Jenn's and my cases is that pins and needles gone away just before first twitch and never came back.

Marcin

It is common in us BFSers to have pins and needles. I know people that also get alot of pins and needles sensations that do not have BFS, but have slipped discs, herniated discs, basically they are out of line and things are pressing on the nerves and such. They see a chiropractor and they say it does wonders, you may want to get that checked out also if it continues to bother you.

Thank you
I have that pin and needle sensation for years but never like this (at least 4 years). I saw a neuro for that thing long time ago and without any exam he told me it's BFS
I don't think of a bad thing, but i'm really, really fed up of that sensation. It's very annoying and difficult to go to sleep whis these bugs on my skin.
It's seem that it look like a twitch but instead of muscle fiber movement, it's a needle sensation from place to place.
I use Klonopin and i took one tablet (0.5 mg) this morning and helped.
