The ALS/MND Center neuro who I was lucky enough to get in to see told me to get lost. No EMG, no follow up appointment in 6 months or a year--just a simple "I see no evidence of any MND" and a boot out the door (accompanied by a very strong admonishment to stay the heck off of the internet). At the time I thought maybe it would have been prudent for her to order another EMG, but in retrospect I'm glad she didn't. Those who really know the beast aren't easily fooled by copycats (e.g., BFS). So, the fact that some of your neuros are ordering follow-ups could be because they probably have not seen very many MND patients themselves (*** is, after all, a very rare disease), and they just want to make sure. For those BFSers who are able to see neuromuscular specialists, don't be surprised to get the boot out the door. It was the most welcome kick in the pants I ever received.
