    Chronic Pain Worries me

I am having the same kinds of symptoms as you right now Gracely. Mostly twitching during the year, but maybe 2 times a year I will get a "flare up" where all symptoms are worse, muscle and joint pains, aching, extra twitching, cramping/spasms, just a general feeling of "inflammation" all over...

My Hand Sinking In: Mystery Ailment?

Your snuff box is SUPPOSED to be sunk in. That's why it's called the snuff box. Look it up. And some of the other spots you're concerned about have no muscle there anyway, just tendons. So it can't be atrophy. Surprised your doc isn't able to tell you this.

    Neuritis & New Symptoms: Update

We're playing with words here, but since nobody really knows what BFS is, I wonder if SFN can fall under the overall umbrella of BFS. I know St Louis doesn't use the term, but we do, and it's really any condition involving fasciculations that are physiologically benign. Sounds like your...

Caught Son Playing in Water Cooler

I wouldn't sweat it. I have some algae growing on my backyard fence and had a toxic cleanup guy come out to take a look and tell me if it was the cyanobacteria. He said no, it's plain jane, cyanobacteria usually requires some type of odd contaminant to cause growth in the first place.

    What Is ALS's 'Mystery Phase'?

It is probably your incredible amount of anxiety that is triggering the twitching, and your focus on the hand. If your EMG was clear SO RECENTLY, then why are you worrying about it? I was once at a drug store drive through. The pharmacist was taking a long time to fill the order, and it was...

    Scared and Can't Breathe: Help!

I bet dollars to donuts that when you stood up, some saliva flew back into your throat (e.g., by inhaling) and caused a laryngeal spasm, which is a normal protective mechanism. It's happened to me a few times before. Nothing to be worried about. Everything since then is probably your anxiety...

    NCV Results: Left Arm/Leg Weakness

Well my understanding is that the ncv is typically normal in mnd. I would be more worried about abnormal needle emg, but even then it still doesn't mean mnd. Now is there a different disease process attacking the nerves? That's possible but out of our collective realm of "expertise"...

Anxiety About Developing ALS: Genervons GM604

I understand that one of the most impressive things about the drug is that improvements in physical measurements tracked closely with improvements in proposed biomarkers that can be objectively measured. That strongly suggests an actual, measureable improvement.

Anxiety About Developing ALS: Genervons GM604

Another way of looking at it: the guy spent 40 years of his life looking for the holy grail and someone else may have beat him to it. I'd be "cautious" and call for bigger studies, too.Competition, jealousy and politics play a role in the academic world, IMO...

    Swallowed Saliva, Struggling to Breathe

Anyone ever done this while awake? Like to the point you can't breathe for a few seconds? I was just sitting there and swallowed and choked on my saliva. Was coughing and struggling to breathe for about 20 seconds. It was terrifying. Been having some bad days. I'm so tired of this. I think I'm...
