Atrophy in Feet - Weakness?

Bibi, atrophy is usually well seen as general decrease of muscle mass. The limb looks more like bone wrapped in the skin. Residual muscles lost their tonus. Normally atrophy means that clinical weakness occurs too as this means that muscles can ot work.Decrease in diameter is REALYY significant, and the bones become really prominent. Many people take subcutaneous fat atrophy for muscle atrophy, but fat atrophy only makes weins and tendons more visible and does not look like a sceleton wrapped in skin and some muslces.

atrophy accrues by not using a muscle. That means if you cannot move the muscle anymore, the body starts to shrink the muscle to save energy. That affects the muscle or the muscle-cord which is not longer be innervated.typical it appears on small muscles first due to the minor number of motoneurones innervating that muscle. That is what my neuro said....Strange muscle-testing can also make dents appear because the muscles grows up and parts without a muscle will appear as dents which are quit normal.Andreas
