Cramp in Left Leg with Twitching.

I've trawled the archives and whilst it seems completely normal for bfsers to have cramps in both calves and feet it's not that common for it to be just in one. Nor is it as common to have cramps when walking rather than resting and finally not to have as much during the day as it is at night.I get:Cramp when standing / walking not restingcramp not at nightCramp only in left legtwitching more in that leg numb 4th toe in that legsore sole of foot same legCan anyone else relate or am I in a minority? Why am I getting these symptoms? I can't believe this is bfs. I'm also twitching more in my shoulders, ribs and back than I was. Anyone get more of these? And again why after 10 months of just twitching body wide?

My left calf feels crampy every morning when I wake up until I get moving. I'm not sure why. I do know my left leg and left arm are where I have the most concentrated twitching. Try not to worry. Nothing you've described sounds serious to me. You said you're 44, right? Did you ever consider the idea that some of this may be related to hormonal changes? Changing hormones can effect your muscles. I'm 46 and my dr told me that a lot of my previous muscle/tendon aches and pains are due to drops in estrogen levels. Just an idea...

Shell67Thanks for your post. I had one ovary out at the beginning of October due to a tumour (benign) and was told my hormones would be fine. However oddly even though my periods are still every 28 days and I'm showing no signs of menopause, I have noticed that around the time of my period I am now getting pimples. Infuriating as my skin has always been my best asset and even as a teenager I rarely got spots. Grrr. Maybe some of these symptoms are hormonal as this op must have affected my hormones somewhat.Do you twitch in your back and ribs?

Back, abdomen, chest -- everywhere. Those are random blips that come every so often. My arm always twitches in the same spots and it's daily. Been like that for months.

hi english, you sound exactly like me..my left leg has been bothering me for weeks now, soreness, mostly in my calf and pain in the sole of my foot.i hardly twitch at all.but this leg is realy worrying me.when i started twitching 8months ago it was my left knee that started first which has me more worried :(

Thanks grapepie.I'm actually going to see another specialist today. Coincidentally when I was trying to make an appointment with him I got through to him. I explained my symptoms and he's able to squeeze me in this evening (I was quite anxious). The person that does the EMG is not there so won't get it today. I'm really hoping he says I don't need one. My leg is driving me NUTS. It's the fact that it's been on and off and now twangs on the toe and I get almost cramps in it but that with the twitching is really making me worry. I'll let you know what he says.

OkWent to see the new MND specialist. He also runs a major clinic and publishes papers internationally on Mnd. He can't find any clinical problems and I was honest about the fact I've seen another chap 1st - he knew him! Don't get me wrong I completely respect the other guy and told him that.He was very thorough and very nice. He says I should have the emg so I can move on but to think about it. Hes given me a week. He has a psychiatrist I can talk to who deals with people who have MND and also people like me who are terrified of it. He agrees with other neuro and he says yes based on clinical evidence I don't have anything g sinister going on (of course can nor be 100%) but he said if I did not have the emg he would be comfortable with that decision.I asked him if I had early stages would it be picked up in the clinical and he said most likely yes. I did ask him about twitching (typically he found none anywhere) and does it come after weakness and he said mostly but not always - but there would be other obvious signs.Re the cramps and toe he says sometimes it's hard to have an answer to all symptoms and he thinks the toe is not related to the twitching. As to why I'm twitching - nerve hyper excitability and any number of reasons bur not likely mnd. He said the cramps in mnd are usually very very painful. In essence he appeared hugely on the ball, understanding and kind. I liked him very much. I'm not sure what to do re the emg as he agree it's painful. He said we would not do the tongue which is the most painful and it would be a short version. Thanks for reading this and any comments much appreciated

Lol it's like you didn't read my post in experience with BFS :)I have cramping in my left big toe several months after the twitching started. Which is again scaring me. It's been around a month now and if I do my usual excercise (Capoeira) the cramp will hit after training for a bit. I have never had cramps in my life either so I find it hard to believe it is unrelated not to mention the the big toe muscle on my left foot twitches 24/7.Same boat !

Well I had an US today of my left foot and the thing that's causing my toe numbness is not a neuroma but a bursar. I could see it really clearly on the screen. Weird. It's definitely what is causing the twanging clicking and possibly the foot pain but not the calf pain or twitching. Bloody gp said it was a tendon and nothing like bursar or Mortons neuroma. They are generally c***. The foot consultant guessed what it was by the classic clicking that i had tried to show the GP . But she had dismissed me even showing her. The mad half of me now thinks that this has been caused by bad posture due to weakening muscles. Why now after all these years? The rational side of me is saying it's all the walking I did round Istanbul before Xmas in unsuitable boots coupled with the self testing and constant prodding. I'm trying to chant the latter and forget about the former......

your rational side is right.foot is made in dozens on small bones, and even if you are a fit runner, over 40 your ligaments give up a bit, so it is very easy to damage them. I damaged my own right feet having 6 hours of walk in Prague two years ago in the boots which were a bit thight for me (my legs were swollen due to sitting for 14 hours in the tourist bus). Since that I had 3 month of pain and still have periodic numbness in two toes, exactly like mortons. I just never did US so I have no idea if it is mortons or bursite. I have also a joint pain on my other foot started recently after waling about a 2 km with my husband, wearing new winter boots on high heels... so it is possible and does not involve bad posture especially due to weakened muscles.

Well I've had a s*** week - the pain in my left leg is still there along with pain in my foot and now numbness. I have also got electric shocks in my right hand. I put up some Ikea flat pack furniture this afternoon and I swear the dexterity in my right hand is not as good as it was.Ive booked the EMG for this Thursday as I can't go on anymore like this - I need to know either way. I'm turning into the witch from hell who shouts at her kids and is literally going mad. I really hate the way I am and I can't move on.I shall update you once Ive been.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. Remember, pain and numbness and tingling point away from the disease you're worried about.Hang in there, and yes please update us as to the results. I know it will turn out fine.

Also, when I get electric shock sensations and pain I've found that gabapentin, which I think also goes by neurontin, works quite well and also calms the twitches, though one cannot drink with it (so I avoid taking it during the weekends, haha). Something to think about and maybe bring up with your neuro.
