EMG Tomorrow - Scared & Twitching!

Hey guys: So my first emg is tomorrow and I am having a big breakdown! I am so scared and now my upper thigh does not stop twitching! Is it normal for this muscle to twitch??? Most of my synptoms are on my right side, is this normal??

Normal for people on this forum anyway :)Just wait till your tongue starts twitching, then the panic really goes through the roof, thing is that's normal too around here, any kind of twitching is. I have been through it all, EMG's NCV's MRI's several of them, it's what we do unfortunately.

So this does sound like regular bfs? I have seen few posts about thigh twitching and one sided symptoms? Im freaking out... The fear of tomorrow is the worst!

Well to begin with don't freak out before the tests, freak out after the results. The whole point of the tests surely is to discover what the problem is.We get hotspots, sometimes it will be just one muscle that is twitching day in, day out for months, sometimes it is a whole lot of them. It seems there is no muscle anywhere that is exempt nor any particular pattern. I stopped worrying about it a long time ago, the anxiety was far worse than the twitches, and the cramps (I get those too) The irony for me is, that when the tests did reveal something wrong with my nerves (and certainly nothing fatal) I felt relieved and justified. I may not have an explanation for BFS but I do have an explanation for a lot else.

Left sided twitcher here. I also had big thumper twitches in my left thigh/hamstring that would wake me up at night. I had an EMG of my entire left side about two weeks ago and it was completely clean. I was diagnosed with BFS. So, for me it is one-sided and in my thigh. I think your EMG will also show nothing more than BFS.

I'm predominately a left sided twitcher with a 9 month 24/7 hot spot in my left calf. I was also very worried before my EMG's (I had 2) as I have atrophy in my left calf and weak left toes. They found nerve damage which they think is due to spine issues (probable spinal stenosis) but they said beyond that they believe it's not anything too nasty. So my diagnosis is spinal stenosis plus BFS which seemed to kick in one day 9 months ago out of the blue following influenza and a tamiflu course. Just as PlayfulPants mentioned the irony for me was to be diagnosed with nerve damage (but nothing fatal) which has given me a great sense of relief. And the one sided symptoms are due to the spinal disc damage predominately on the left side.

So glad to hear this. I'm a more left sided twitcher and possibly then it might be due to sciatica down that side. I too started twitching after a very Nasty virus 9 months ago. Not flu but not your normal cold. I felt wiped out and my joints ached especially my thumb. 2 weeks later i started twitching.

Thanks guys I am happy to hear this. I got my EMG back with a mononeropathy on my left foot probably due to a spraied ankle when I was little. They said this is an incidental finding and that it wasnt *ls. I am very happy with the result but of course I would have perfered a completly clean EMG I get nervous thinking that they made a mistake with the diagnosis. Does anyonw here have mononeropathy?

So good to hear your good news! How do you feel now? Are you feeling more relaxed? Interesting that you posted you are a right side twitcher but it's actually the left side with any nerve issue! Good luck to you and I hope your anxieties quiet. I'm just shy of a month away from my first neuro exam and I'm coming out of my skin!!!

Hahaha I know it is funny! I think a lot of my twitching comes from my head! My left foot hadnt twited once until they told me of the mononeuropathy!
