Random Thing Happened Last Night

A random thing happened to me last night while I was laying in bed going to sleep. I wasn't dozing off to sleep yet, I had just got into bed 5 minutes prior.I got this warm fuzzy feeling in my brain, accompanied by an electrical jolt feeling which made my whole body tingle and feel warm. This wasn't the worst part, when the electrical current feeling zapped my brain, my three middle toes on my left foot all moved down at the exact same time. They moved down really fast, kinda like how my finger and toes move on their own. This has never happened to me before and it freaked me out. Is this still in the realm of BFS? It really was the strangest thing to happen to me yet. Thanks,Jay

Jay,I'm thinking hypnic jerk on this one. I have experienced something like this one with my fingers. It's just our mis-wired brain going haywire and it sucks! If you find your toes are moving too much when trying to sleep, wearing a pair of socks and pushing your feet up against something seems to help.

Hi Jay,I can not tell that this is what I have too (unlike many cases here) but 'electrical' feeling with subsequent warm wave... was it warm or hot? did you have sweating after it? if yes, it might be a simultaneous adrenaline shot which often happens with us, unfortunately..., and often in the bed...they can cause also involntary muscle movements."electrical bolt" feeling could be a sign of myelitis (inflammation of white matter, mostly in the spinal cord) - but as far as I understand, it is a bit really like having been striken by 220V AC - not like yours "warm" feeling. It happens in tetanus for example, and people in that case have really bad seizures... not three fingers moved...Myelitis happens in really severe cases like rabies, viral /bacterial encephalitis, tetanus, etc - it is not easy to get those conditions too...hot flushes could be accompanied by simultaneous feeling of goosebumps, so it means spontaneous activation of your automonous, not central or periferic neural system. Anyway it does not seem to be related to MND.

Thank you both for the replies. The only time I had anything similar was a few months ago. I had a brain zap that shot down my right arm. I felt a zap in my brain and it went all the way down to my arm...it was so strange. When that happened, I told the neurologist about it and he said it didn't fit with anything neurological. I thought for sure something would show up on my mri because of the zap, but nope nothing did. This is getting too weird for me to even try to rationalize in my head.

J,We call these "brain zaps" on the BFS chat site! I don't get them often but have had them about 10 times over the past 1.5 years. -Matt

Hey Matt, Yes brain zaps is a good description. But have you actually heard of it happening and causing fingers or toes to move? I have never of it happening, that just increases the anxiety it has caused me.
