Freaking Out Over Symptoms: Need Advice

Hi there! I'm writing for my brother. He's freaking out. He has had weakness in his legs for the past few weeks. He went to his GP doctor last friday who referred him to a neurologist today. Today the neuro did a comprehensive EMG and nerve conduction study....Would the doctor have told him during the test if something odd was showing up? He was told he should ahve test results tomorrow....Just want to know what others think...thanks!

No, not necessarily. Does he know if a neuro did his exam or if it was a technician? If a tech did it, they are not allowed to give the results and have to tell him to wait for the results. -Matt

It was the neuro that did the needle part and a nurse that did the shocking part, i think they would ahve said something to him there if it looked bad, huh?

Tell him not to play those games. There's NO TELLING what someone would have said or should have said. When people on this forum talk about when they got their results back, you'll find that some neuros told them some things right away and others did not. It is absolutely not an indication of the results, not at all! I've had health anxiety for a while now and have had many tests where I played that game. I was looking for reactions in the technician, wondering if they would have told me if they found something, etc. And I was always surprised when they told me it was normal. The mind can do crazy things if you let it. I know the waiting is hard, but its only a day. -Matt

thanks, he's just freaking out because he thinks it could be A-- or MS ors omething bad...he has weakness in both legs so I am not even sure what to think...i've never had weakness only twtichign

if it was a tech then they can't give results...if it was a nuero they should of told him on the spot....but some of this stuff is hard to get a good clinical picture without putting everything together....i had what some would call dirty emg but did not point to anything other then disk problems...weakness in both legs my humble opinion is lower back disk problem....mri doesn't always show it...but if it comes back saying billateral root dysfunction then that's what it is.
